Investment of £100k that's just sitting in the bank

I have around £100k which I had been saving in order to buy a bigger house, but we have since decided to stay put in our current property due to personal circumstances.
This has left me with £100k sitting in cash, albeit split between three maxed out Santander 123 Accounts, plus a really low return ISA. The returns on the 123 accounts are okay I guess given the current climate, but given we have no intention of using this money any time soon I'm trying to establish whether there is a more appropriate place for it.
I'll probably take 10k of it and overpay on the current mortgage, but I am limited in terms of how much I can pay back in any one financial year without incurring penalties.
I have dabbled a little bit with gold (currently about £5000 worth) and even cryptocurrency (about £1000) so I am not afraid of a little risk, but realistically I'm looking for something pretty safe.
Any suggestions?

What is your overall financial situation? Is this £100k that is 100% of your wealth, or 10% of your wealth, for example?0

In terms of cash assets, it's about 90%. So I have some additional money set aside for emergencies and general unexpected costs.
In terms of wider wealth, we current own a house with significant equity, plus various other smallish investments such as gold etc. Don't plan on touching these.
I had thought about purchasing a small property and renting it out, but with the recent stamp duty changes and the uncertainty of Brexit, I don't fancy it much.
Income wise I can put away about £2500 - £3000 a month into savings.0 -
Do you make regular contributions to a pension?
Had you considered a stocks and shares ISA?0
