MET Gatwiick ANPR 11 minute overstay

A PCN from Met Parking Services arrived on my doorstep last week as the registered keeper.
I wasn't the driver, my other half was. It is clear from the ANPR pictures that a man was driving, so couldn't have possibly been me.
He went into McDonalds and bought a meal and a drink. Unfortunately he must have paid cash as there is no record on his recent statement of a transaction. He said he didn't notice any signs. It was 4.30pm so not dark.
It also took him a while to actually park as there were so many taxis in there taking up the bays.
He stayed in the restaurant blissfully unaware using the free wifi and overstayed by 11 minutes. Clearly he overstayed, that is not in dispute, but £100 for 11 minutes seems outrageous considering he bought a meal (if it can be called a meal!) in the establishment that is effectively fining him.
I have missed the chance to pay the reduced charge of £50, so they want £100 within 28 days.
Any advice gratefully received. I am a working mum of two young children on their holidays, so don't have loads of time to spend researching my chances. It all seems a bit of a minefield!
Do I have any chance of success of winning against MET?
Can anyone point me in the right direction of the best grounds to appeal?
Thanks so much in advance...

the NEWBIES sticky thread tells the KEEPER how to appeal (dont mention the driver)

the template letter is also there too

the grace periods will also come into any further appeal later (to POPLA)

was there clear signage stating that the PPC did not offer a grace period , in which time to enter , read and understand the conditions , and a second one giving time to exit

if this gets prolonged , you may wish to point out (at a later date) that as they are members of the BPA , and supposed to adhere to the Code of practice

    grace periods:

    13 Grace periods
13.1 Your approach to parking management must allow a driver who enters your car park but decides not to park, to leave the car park within a reasonable period without having their vehicle issued with a parking charge notice.
13.2 You should allow the driver a reasonable ‘grace period’ in which to decide if they are going to stay or go. If the driver is on your land without permission you should still allow them a grace period to read your signs and leave before you take enforcement action.
13.3 You should be prepared to tell us the specific grace period at a site if our compliance team or our agents ask what it is.
13.4 You should allow the driver a reasonable period to leave the private car park after the parking contract has ended, before you take enforcement action. If the location is one where parking is normally permitted, the Grace Period at the end of the parking period should be a minimum of 10 minutes

now as this was by ANPR on the entrance / exit , they are using those times ,not the stated parking times + grace periods

Have you/husband complained to McDonalds especially as he was a genuine customer? They can intervene.

Quite recently or local MacD in the Costa Blanca was offering 2 McFurries for 3 Euros. The Memsahib and I made 3 visits in 7 weeks.
