Paypal changed default shipping address

Hi everyone
I'm very interested to hear from anyone who has had their default delivery/shipping address changed without their knowledge. This has happened to me and eBay/Paypal refuse to tell me how it happened, admit responsibility or suggest how I can get my money back.
In February I won an auction. I was in Portugal at the time, on my phone and completed the purchase in the usual fashion.
To cut a very very long story short, eBay/Paypal changed my default delivery address and the goods went to a deceased relatives house 200 miles from home, where we now know no one. The parcel is deemed lost.
eBay/Paypal are officially refusing to admit there was a technical problem, even though one of their representatives (online chat session, I have the transcript) admitted that the technical department were aware of the problem and were looking into it.
I have had dozens of online chat sessions with customer services (worse than useless) a different person each time of course.
Three registered letters threatening a small claim - two to the London address ignored and a third to the complaints department in Ireland eventually answered by email, with much the same result - no explanation of how it happened, denying responsibility and saying it was my fault for not checking the delivery address after the auction. Well, technically they have a point, but I have made hundreds of purchases on eBay and after the first few times never physically checked the address. Why would I. I haven't changed it. I have lived in the same house since joining eBay in 2003. They have been sending stuff to me for 13 years at my home address. I have never had to enter my address or check it. Besides, when you are away from home on a small phone, it is not that easy to read the screen. Just tap the confirmation button and away it goes.
Just to make it clear: The seller is not at fault. They sent it quickly to the address supplied by Paypal.
The delivery company (Hermes) were not at fault. They delivered per schedule to the address on the packet.
The people who received it say they took the parcel to the post office (don't even ask!!!)
So it it obvious I would not change my default delivery address, in fact I wouldn't have known how.
Somehow, there was a technical hitch, but eBay/Pay are admitting nothing.
I need some other examples of this happening if anyone can help.
Thanks for reading this.
