COC and No courier - ignored

Hi

I listed some furniture on eBay and stated cash on collection only and no courier. (approx £1,000)

The same person bought 3 items using 2 separate eBay accounts and immediately paid by PayPal.
I have just been contacted by them and they want to use a courier, they live 200 miles away from me.

My main concern is that I want to avoid being conned into a refund. Is there a way I can make sure they can not do a charge back but still allow the courier collection.

many thanks

Or if they can safely go by courier without being damaged then arrange your own. Unless you upload online tracking to prove delivery they can claim non-delivery and get a refund. In all honesty your'll be better off doing as above, blocking their Ebay names and trying again. Or trying a different method to sell.

Totally agree with Papa Golf. I have sold quite a few large items, always state cash on collection, no Paypal, I print the transaction page and ask buyer to inspect item before handing over cash, then I ask them to sign the transaction page. This has never been an issue for the buyers (well, not so far)... On the few occasions, a buyer has paid by Paypal for COC item, I have always refunded and explained why. A couple of have backed out but too bad...
I would definitely cancel the transactions, refund the money and email buyer explaining why. If they really want the items, they will comply with conditions of sale. And if not, just re-list. Everything shifts eventually...

Can I please ask people to have a read of the sticky thread about the problems of collection only items.

Basically, no one can force you to sell, but neither can a seller insist on cash- paypal remains the default payment option. When you refund you are likely to be stuck with all the fees, plus a defect and very probably the furniture as well.

Personally I don't think ebay is the best place to sell high end collection only items unless you are prepared to risk ending up out of pocket.

For my tuppence worth. They may be able to arrange a private courier who can pay you cash on collection. Some will do that and you can refund Paypal if so.

The other problem with someone else's courier is that you generally won't get a time for collection so could be waiting all day. If the situation arose with me I asked for the courier to bring cash and be able to arrange a one hour window for collection.

How about when they pay by PayPal but refuse to collect in person?
The auction clearly states no couriers collect in person only.

That should put the buyer in the wrong with eBay surely.
They should have at least contacted us to see if we would agree to them using a courier.

    This a r s e hasn't even the decency to appologise.

You've, unfortunately, got a problem from here. To cancel you need to get the buyer to agree, otherwise you may well lose your fees. In that respect you need to be nice to the buyer and try and find a solution or you could be £100 out of pocket.

Or insist he collects in person which I know he will not.

    This is incorrect.

The seller simply needs to go to Ebay and choose Cancel, with reason: 'buyer agreed to Cancel or there is an issue with the buyer's address'

The item is Cancelled and the seller gets fees back. The buyer has no option to dis-agree with this.

Under no circumstances should the seller be bullied into accepting Paypal or couriers, and Ebay puts the ball firmly in the sellers court with the Cancel option.
