    This is incorrect.

The seller simply needs to go to Ebay and choose Cancel, with reason: 'buyer agreed to Cancel or there is an issue with the buyer's address'

The item is Cancelled and the seller gets fees back. The buyer has no option to dis-agree with this.

Under no circumstances should the seller be bullied into accepting Paypal or couriers, and Ebay puts the ball firmly in the sellers court with the Cancel option.
My apologies if it has recently changed. My comments were from my experience and that the buyer has paid. If you are saying that the buyer has "agreed to cancel" then that used to go to the buyer to verify. If the buyer then said they still wanted the sale the fees are lost and there's no chance to reopen a dispute.
As I said that may have changed so I'd welcome verification from someone who has recently gone through that.

I have always cancelled orders with the "issue with address" option. No defects, no buyer agreeing nonsense and all fees refunded.
  • I've never had a problem with cash on collection. And I've stipulated it on more than 20 auctions. That may not seem like many but on the one instance I had cause to speak to ebay their response was as long as you've stipulated terms and conditions on the auction listing then those ARE the terms and conditions. Caveat emptor. Paypal may be the default preference but you can still list as cash on collection and refuse pal of pay. That having been said, I've never sold anything worth more than about £100 via ebay. I could probably have made a bit more via a traditional auctioneer but once you've paid their collection charges, their fee and if it doesn't sell first time, storage charges - negligible difference.

    No you can't.

Except for a few categories (motor vehicles being the main one), Paypal is automatically listed as a payment option for buyers.
You can state that you prefer payment by cash on collection, but you can't insist on it.
The following are from ebay's accepted payments policy.
Payment options for most listings on eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie
All sellers on eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie must offer PayPal as a payment method.
eBay requires all sellers listing on eBay.co.uk to offer payments through PayPal (with some limited exceptions). In most cases, other payment options may be offered as well.

If you don't want to accept Paypal on cash on collection items, the workaround is just to mis-type your Paypal address, ie mis-spell the e-mail so xxx@gmail.nom, just make sure the . extension is an invalid domain and you can't be paid that way.

That prevents anyone who wishes to play silly !!!!!!s on cash on collection from doing so. Their Paypal payment if they choose to ignore the payment terms will just show as as 'unclaimed'.

It's not really a work round though if it just annoys a potential buyer.

Buyer has to contact seller to find out what has gone wrong, seller asks them to cancel their payment. Buyer then recalls the oayment that can take 6 days to get back to the funding source.

Seller looks like they are either a scammer, or have no idea what they are doing, but still expects the buyer to turn up later and pay cash. Meanwhile buyer has walked away from deal and leaves poor feedback warning that seller can't accept PayPal.

All I can say this that for CoC items I have been doing this for a number of years, and it's never been a problem.

As a seller Ebay and Paypal provides no protection for cash on collection items from INR claims or chargebacks so a seller needs to protect themselves. Annoying a buyer who fails to read the listing terms is a small price for that security. It avoids the exact scenario the opening post is about.

It's up to each seller if they wish to do it, but lose my goods or annoy someone? That is a no brainer.

Why not just get a quote for your own courier, no matter how much, and onsist that if they pay with Paypal, then they pay for your courier charge too.

(PayPal rules state that YOU, the seller, need tracking to show delivery)

Or agree to their own courier if they pay via bank transfer.

Anyway, this was nearly 3 weeks ago, so what happened??
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
