Grace period when road tax expires ?

Basically, my tax expired end of July but I am still insured until the 3rd of this month. I am planning to sell the car in a couple of days time. Am I breaking the law if I drive the car in these next few days ?

Many thanks !

it must be either taxed or sorned, there is no grace period, do it now before the DVLA computer catches up with you and issues an automatic fine, or worse you get clamped.
    From the Plain Language Commission:

Thanks. If I SORN it now, can I still drive it to the buyer's location ? Or will I be in big trouble if I get caught ?

No you can't. You will be in trouble if picked up for it probably by ANNE first.

Either SORN and don't drive it or get it taxed. Your call

You can tax the car, and then cancel (reclaim unused months of) the tax once you sell. You'd lose out on one month's tax - i.e. it would cost you a month of tax, even if you sold a week into the month.
