Mon 1st August - What Small Debt Free Wannabe style things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

    Hi August Awesome-ees,

    Went to work for a "couple of hours"...ended up staying 8.5! Oh well, the money will be nice. Came home to find DW and already crawled into bed. I'm hungry so I'm munching leftovers. Two days off now. Hurrah! Just as well, my brain is mangled.

    Random thought for the day: "Only now is real."

    Debt Free-Nillionaire Continuity Plan Year Two:

    * Consider MOTing the car.

    * Check broadband allowance.

    * Use Andrew Johnson's new, free meditation MP3 "Quiet Mind" as mentioned on yesterday's thread.

    * Long walk with DW along the coast.

    Live long, live well and prosper.

  • Hi guys! Typed out post and keyboard went squiffy and it. so stomped off in a huff!

    Things done so far:

    * checking and reconciled cc statement - well kinda it's out by £21 so need to go back and work out what that is!
    * paid cm
    * got all accounts/pots straight with spends over the last month.
    * made yogurt last night and have frozen a starter for the next batch - works out 61p for a litre
    * currently straining said yogurt to turn it into greek yogurt mmmmm
    * called new employer re start date. It's been 2 months since I was offered the job. That means 2 months of no income and this month I have had to dip into my savings for a number of things. Just waiting for the dbs but looks like it'll be end Sept before I get any cash
    * all meals from stores
    * clean house
    * going to collect a mattress for dd. She has been offered a LA flat and will move any day but as it is a council flat it is completely unfurnished. Have got her a bed, chest of drawers and sofa (my brother has given me some money to help), she has got a washing machine, vacuum cleaner, cups, plates and fridge. Still urgently needs curtains, cooker, carpets (not urgent). Am just worried that her mh will deteriorate if the flat doesn't look nice/homely quickly and her mh hasn't been good for the last 2 months. The high of getting somewhere permanent will quickly go and the higher she gets in this period will mean a lower low

    For those who could give a rats.... we spent £181 on groceries last month. It works out about £6 pd for the 3 of us and includes 1 take away - well it was Maccy Ds on dg's birthday. This month going to get a nice pizza in the freezer for the inevitable day we cba!

    I am struggling to get this lower at the moment as I don't have the time, inclination or freezer space to be hunting out ys bargains. Need to rethink this... Currently 90% of veg is *free* as I am growing it. In the winter months that will be an increase. This really is the top amount we can afford at this point, until I start my new job but even then we can't really afford much more. I do everything I can to avoid wasting anything, adjusting meal plans to use things up, having what needs using rather than what we fancy, really trying hard to make meal plans that bases meals around what we have rather than these things being side items - if you see what I mean? I don't know what more I can do?! Think I'm going to give up meat, but wouldn't be able to convince oh of that and protein is really important for dgd while she's growing as she is. Advice, tip & thoughts would be appreciated!

    * going to make some laundry gloop - anyone else used this?

    Ok going now! Have a great day everyone
