Beware rental scam

Hi. Ive recently been the victim of a rental scam on gumtree. I put an ad on there saying i require a property that accepts housing benefit. Long story short i was contacted and discussions took place where they said they lived far away and would need a holding fee first before i viewed it as they have been let down with…

This very nearly happened to me and my partner. We were looking for somewhere and seen a "too good to be true" property to rent.
Same thing, said he was let down with potential renters and wanted money before to prove we were serious as he would come down especially to let us view to property.
Kind of figured out things didn't add up. Did a reverse search of the images used in the add and they gave me search results on Google for a completely different property he stole photos from zoopla.
If it looks to good to be true, it usually is.
