Afer all your advice i decide to go look for a damp detector, got one in b&q. Tried it on some of the walls and the bedroom has 3 walls with damp and the 1 hall wall. The middle picture is a wall with the bath at the other side, when we got the shower removed and the bath put in, the plumber said there was a leak under the tray but he said he fixed it.

What should i do now?? How do i fix it??

  • Unfortunately, it's one of those jobs you really have to see because it could be as simple as taking the bath panel off and re-tightening a waste connection to having to take the bath or shower tray out and damage the tiles surround it, effect the repair and put it all back.
If you can get the bath panel off and look underneath then you might spot something. Try watching for a leak while running the water, too.

I'll take a look tonight as we can take the bath panel off, what should i do with the other walls?? Is there anything i can do or should i get someone professional in??
All of the other walls have damp coming up as high as the window sill, but the wall between my room and childrens room, the damp detector bleeps up as far as half way up the wall.

  • I think the test involves sticking a bit of tinfoil on the wall with sellotape, leaving for a few days, and then checking if there is condensation on the tinfoil (not sure what side of the tinfoil should be checked for condensation).

It would be the "room side" not the side touching the wall. The idea is that the moisture will not penetrate the aluminium foil so damp would not moisten the room side of the foil. With condensation the foil would be at more or less the same temperature as the room and would therefore get wet as well as the wall.
