Might help, but my 11y daughter, who is a dead ringer for a well known al qaeda leader is always stopped at airports and all her possessions chemically swab tested, my fault really, whatever we feed her must make her smell like Semtex, no more Nutella for you my angel...

Bit late now but I would never have tried to travel to the airport on a Monday morning, would have sparked out a few quid and stayed at a hotel at EMA. There are about 4 within spitting distance. We live in Nottingham and if we are flying from BHX we stay at the Ibis on site.
Too many things can go wrong in the morning.

Oh and EMA security is the problem. We dropped our bags off 2 hours before flight departure and were within 2 minutes of missing our flight. Others behind us were not that lucky. I avoid that airport like the plague
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Thanks for info... it wasn't my airport of choice. I had been booked on Monarch from Birmingham, then they suddenly decided they were not going to fly to Corfu from Birmingham in 2016 and left me in the lurch looking for a flight..

Just booked express, not very MSE, and may be pointless but its there in case..

Slightly bizarre and paranoid, Birmingham is 40 minutes drive from Nottingham.
  • Never had a problem flying from EMA and have been flying from there for over 30 years.
We live around 70 miles east of the airport and drive across country to Kegworth (no motorways or direct roads there for us), and it never takes us more than an hour or so - but we are always there well on time, as I would sooner be at the airport and wait, than cut it fine and NOT get there.
We always pre-book seats, so that is one less thing to worry about, but we normally arrive 3 to 4 hours before our flight, as we know that parking is not as easy as at BHX - and a couple of years ago it was chaos as one of the car parks was closed when we arrived so all cars for two car parks were being directed to one, which made for some frayed tempers!
However, never been delayed too long going through security etc - always go through as soon as we check in, as we like to have breakfast and a look around with the kids while we wait to be called.

Even three years ago when I decided to drive through Nottingham for a change and found the A453 full of roadworks, we were still there in plenty of time.

Like all airports at the moment, you need to allow extra time for security checks - and rightly so!

I'd always allow a good 2 hours. I've found the security there as slow as any airport I've ever been to.

An airport well worth an upgrade to fast lane security at busy times. Keep to the left when entering security it's only £3 per person, purchased from here in advance:
