How slow is East Midlands?

East Midlands

Hi,

Never used this airport before, we are on a Jet2 flight @ 8.15am Monday and have long term parking booked, what time would you aim to be there to park up, get luggage checked in and go through security?

No idea how busy/slow/quick it is through there..

Cheers

There have been reports that it can be very slow, perhaps do a forum search.

It's extremely variable, can go straight through but can queue quite a while as well.

Monday morning will probably be quite busy, also the M1 will be chocka, I'd leave plenty of time if I were you, I'd aim to be parking up at 06.00.

that sounds about right to me, East Mids can be busy for early morning flights, lots of commuter flights departing around that time midweek.

    Okey dokey, thanks.

by 6am at latest it is..
  • Just noticed your post.

Check how many flights are leaving 30 minutes before and after yours, should give you some idea of how busy it will be.

Again be wary of the motorway being busy/ having an accident etc.

Check how long it is going to take you to get from the car park.

You can buy a pass for the fast lane at security from departures if it is busy.

After all of that aim to be there a minimum of 2 hours before departure.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

That sounds sensible, after 6.30 the M1 would also be very busy, so given your flight time and the fact it's a Monday morning makes sense to leave that little bit of extra time.

    Where are you coming from?

other side of Birmingham, so M42/A42 all the way. A 2 lane route does make me nervous may go a bit earlier.. but in the end what will be will be, if there is a smash and a 2 hour hold up there isn't really any way round it.

Well it's probably easier than going in the othe direction, I'm in Nottingham and so have experience of the A42/M42 in the other direction, and certainly aim to be away by say 6.15 if I'm travelling to the southwest.

You have the advantage that once you are passed the M40, airport/ nec and then the toll road the traffic should be lighter, you can also get off at the junction before the M1 for parking which will help a bit.

Main problem is wagons overtaking on the A42 section, so slow going and longish tailbacks as cars are restricted to 55-60mph.

Monday morning is very busy at the airport,we live close by.
We use the airport regularly and if you are parking in long stay I would say aim for 5.30am to be safe.

Between the first flight at 0515 until yours there are 21 flights leaving east mids. So if you get there too early you will be queuing with all them. Can't see at the moment how many there are after yours.
