It looks like you have already received the advice. Definitely forget about euros (unless you already have some to use up).

  • Will resort change £ to Lira or will I need to do this at Dalaman airport? We are due to land at 3am local time so will this be an option at the airport? Thank you in advance

    Hi Princessmoneysaver
You can change money at Dalaman airport at any time but the exchange rate is poor so just change a small amount.
Tip_ if you are able to find a HSBC cash point where you are staying you can withdraw English money free of fees and then change it for a better rate in a currency exchange. Any Link bank card can be used ( Loyds, Santander etc) There are HSBC cash points in Hisaronu and Fethiye.

We are going in two weeks time. We will exchange £25 here for TL & take £300 in hard cash to swapping. We are going to Icemelar

Marmaris certainly has HSBC cash machines
Private Parking Tickets - Make sure you put your Subject Access Request in after 25th May 2018 - It's free & ask for everything, don't forget the DVLA :D

Always change your £ in the resort- you will get vastly better rates than the UK, Turkish airport or hotel. There will be loads of shops advertising their rates as you walk past. As a guide today (Sunday) I can get in resort 3.91TL to the £ and in the UK the best bureau rate is 3.82TL.

    Don't bother taking Euros.

Just a word of warning I have just returned from Hisaronou (Turkey) never having used an ATM abroad, I decided to make a cash withdrawal from the HSBC ATM near too Azda
The machine is clearly marked no charges for withdrawals, the minimum amount is £50, made the withdrawal using a TSB Visa debit card without any problems.
Returned to the UK and checked my account to find I had been charged £2 (4%), rang TSB to query this to be told that although HSBC do not make any charges for a withdrawal, TSB treat this as a foreign transaction
    Where did I go wrong????

that seems to be in line with the information on their cards

Caz3121 Thanks for the reply and the link, even more confused
Cash withdrawals are also subject to a non-sterling cash fee or foreign cash fee (depending on the currency of withdrawal) charge of 1.5% of the value of each transaction with a minimum charge of £2 and a maximum charge of £4.50.
My point was my withdrawal was £50 sterling, via a £50 note. To me this is not non sterling cash or foreign cash

So presumably TSB are imposing their 'foreign cash fee', as it's withdrawn in a foreign country, whereas HSBC would not (for using their own machine).

Are you saying you got a £50 note out of a Turkish ATM?
