Yes, SORN lasts until you tax it, or transfer ownership.
Presumably, it was costing "them" more to post a yearly reminder, and then a confirmation letter to every SORN'd vehicle than "they" made from fining the few hundred people who forgot.
Just double check on https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax that it is actually SORN'd.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
