Health insurance for travel in france

Hi. This is my first post, so hope this is an OK question. My wife and I spend 2x 3month periods in France(6months in total) We both have pre-existing conditions. We do not need all the other items that comes with Travel insurance, we only need HEALTH cover. Any thoughts or facts appreciated. Have found that the travel insurance quotes have been ridiculously expensive and also difficult to find companies that will cover for the 90 days we need. I am 69, my wife 68.

Try Staysure, you may have to ring them as your case probably doesn't fit the questions online! but they are very competitive.

InsureandGo Annual Multi trip Gold or Black policies cover for 90 days per trip. But I guess once you declare your medical conditions that you won't be covered for those.... or perhaps they cover you but raise the premium.
Either way, an annual policy will cover your 2 x 90 day(max) trips in one policy. Around £116 for two for European cover before medical declaration.
Take a look for yourself: https://www.insureandgo.com

Of course if you are over 66, all bets are off...and perhaps you should have mentioned that in the first place.

Do you have an EHIC which entitles you state medical treatment. You do have to pay and claim the amount back.

This card will not however repatriate you if needed due to ongoing illness /incapacity or death. You would need travel insurance for that.

You could also look into private healthcare plans but you would need to check about repatriation if say, one of you needed ongoing medical treatment and were unable to travel by normal mens such as needing more than one seat because of a broken leg or a condition where you needed to lie flat.

If one of you dies in France would you want the body brought back to UK?

Google medical treatment in France for sites with information of what treatment you can get with the EHIC.

You can get any medical treatment at all with the EHIC - emergency, regular or ongoing. However, apart from life saving treatment, you'll only be covered for 65/70% of the cost of that treatment.

Health payouts make up the vast majority of travel insurances £s claimed.

The other stuff makes up well under half the premium.

Thanks for the info. EHIC has covered me in the past, and have 1500 euro bill from hospital a couple of weeks ago. My concern is Brexit in a couple of years. Death has already been covered, thanks for mentioning it

The EHIC in France is not accepted by Doctors (23 euros per visit) nor Prescriptions from Chemists. 80% reduction in Hospitals

Payingtoomuch.com has just insured an older family member with quite a lot of medical conditions. Maybe they'd be decent for you too? Also I'm younger than you but also have mc, and last year got decent cover from holidayrisk.com.
    I love France :)

It's accepted in as much as you can claim 65/70% back on what you pay - the rest you have to pay yourself.
