Hello
Know this sounds a bit thick
Currently havea phone & b/band with different providers been thinking for a while i could probably get a better deal combining them.
However, what's putting me off is that i will probably be given a new router & i don't know how to connect the computer to a new one.
Can anyone out their explain how to do it please.
Thanks

Presumably you are using wireless connections, since if you're using a physical ethernet cable there's pretty much only one way to do it. (So in the short term, you can probably just plug in a network cable to get the connection all verified, which is what I would always do first time.)
I assume your computer is a desktop or laptop running windows ..? There ought to be a setup util on windows that will walk you through the steps. Typically it might mean putting in the correct network id and password.
You might be able to keep the router and use it with the new ISP, though you'd then have to configure the router, giving it the login details for your ISP account.0 -
Which is your current internet provider ?
Or who would you like to move to ?
It's easy to setup, if it's Virgin Media plug the new router into the mains and plug the ethernet cable into the correct port. If PC is wireless then you search for your router and enter the default username and password.
If your moving to VM they will send someone round to connect the cable to your house and he might even get you set up with the superhub if you get an option for him to do it.0 -
What gizmos do you have at the moment that connect to the internet?
If it's just your computer and you connect to the router with a cable, just plug the cable into the new router and you shouldn't have to do anything else.
If it's just your computer and it connects wirelessly then you'll just need to select the new network and enter the new password. The exact steps depend on what operating system you use. ISPs usually send instructions with their routers so it should be pretty easy.
Other stuff like smart TVs, wireless printers and so on might not be as straightforward, but it should be less tricky to connect those than to reconfigure your existing router to the new ISP.
Only real difficulty might be if you (or presumably somebody else as a favour) have set up 'static IPs' or something worded similarly for you. If that doesn't mean anything to you you can safely forget it.0 -
I find Youtube usually shows you how to do things. You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

Depending on what router you have now and who you would be going with you may well be able to continue using the current router. That said any new one provided may well be better than your current one.
If you can't use the old router and get a new one it will come with instructions and if you have problems with those the ISP will have a helpline.
It really isn't posible to give detailed generic instructions as there are detail differences between routers and ISPs.0
