Help for prisoner on remand!

yes..................................
Sadly people who are psychotic often don't have that insight, and they think it's the rest of the world that's in the wrong.
The mental health professionals will be better able to assess her than you, or us.I'm back..

yes i was at the incident, and was taken to hospital myself because of my injuries. When i got back all the emergency services had left ."if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

Something definitely doesn't sound right if you've been directly involved but no statement been taken?
If you've got the crime or incident number ring 101 and ask to speak to the investigating officer. If you don't have any reference number you can still ring and ask to speak to someone. You just have to give the date of the incident and address or road name of where it happened0 -
I believe that you don't have to be charged with a crime to be on remand."if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

If she was already under the care of Mental Health services you could try contacting her social worker or support worker to express your concerns and to ask whether they can put you in touch with her solicitor.
You could also, as has previously been suggested, contact the police and ask to speak to the investigating officer. Any statement you give will be passed on the defence.
You could write to the Governor of the prison where sh is being held to express your concerns. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
I believe that you don't have to be charged with a crime to be on remand.
Yes you do - only a court can remand someone into custody, and only if they have been charged with an offence.
She could be detained in a police cell for a period of time without charge.
Is she definitely in a prison, and not in a secure hospital ? (which might be appropriate if she has been sectioned under the Mental health act.0 -
Even if she's assessed as needing to be in hospital there may still be a wait for a bed in a secure unit, particularly if she needs a higher level of support. It can be a bit like musical beds sometimes while people are shifted between wards or discharged. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Who can i get to make certain that a female remand prisoner is receiving adequate mental health care?
if she is known to the community MHT she will have a key worker/ social worker. The police/ court also have a responsibility to ensure she gets the medical treatment she requires and will not be able to interview without a lawyer & appropriate adult if required.
Also i am willing to give evidence to say that no crime was actually committed and that she was having a psychotic episode at the time of her arrest. I have evidence to this fact on my phone.but will only be able to visit this person next week. i don't know who their Solicitor is , nor do they have any family to help. I am not family btw.Police have my details but have not contacted me- the incident in question is now over a week old.The person was only arrested on suspicion of a crime. The Police told me that it was so that her mental health could be assessed.
I think you may be mistaken, the police can only arrest someone if they believe a crime has been commitred, a MH assessment may be done as part of the whole process but is not a valid reason to arrest someone. the police do, however, have the power to section someone (S136 MHA) and will take them to a place of safety for a MH assessment
I was there as well as people from the emergency services who i am sure realised that the person was in a psychosis.I fully expected them to be released into a mental health unit for a continuation of their treatment.
As i have stated i have not made a statement and a lot of evidence has been disposed of and no request was made to the contrary.
I can only assume that experts have inspected the scene and taken photos. I am now slightly concerned that if my phone is lost, then some of this evidence will be lost also.
Perhaps email the photos/ video/ evidence to yourself or store it on the cloud or other hosting site.
The main concern for me is that she receives adequate mental health care and i am not certain that prison is the right place for her, as she has not been charged- as far as i am aware and nor whether she is getting adequate mental health treatment there.
Plus also because of their issues, i really can't be sure that they are able to ask the right questions or request the right help. This is why i am thinking that someone with expert knowledge could advocate for her.yes i was at the incident, and was taken to hospital myself because of my injuries.
If you have been injured, why would you make a statement that no crime has been committed? (see bold bit above)You can say you don't want to press charges or refuse to co-operate with the investigation but if someone's actions has injured you, even with diminished responsibility a crime may have been commited
When i got back all the emergency services had left .
Hope this is some help,Originally Posted by shortcrust

I have been told that the police got a statement off somebody yesterday, that wasn't actually there at the time, but who owns the property where the incident took place. There is evidence that a crime may have taken place. However i have seen the area and there was evidence to suggest that no crime was committed. However this has been cleaned up now by me, but i hope photos were taken whilst i was in hospital . It appears that the only real evidence for a crime was her confession. However 2 years ago she confessed to a non existant crime that was still investigated. When she confessed on both occasions, she was in psychosis and not in a competent state to defend herself..
For all i know she may not have a Solicitor and have waived her rights. The evidence i have are text messages sent to me. However the phone that they were sent on has disappeared and may have been destroyed.
Although she is known to have mental health problems, apart from her GP she does not seem to have a Mental health worker though she is on anti psychotic medication."if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170 -
This is all very confusing. You need to speak to police as a witness and not as a concerned friend (sorry I'm just assuming that's what you are) as they won't tell you anything.0
