My advice is to try the store first. If they are no help then I suggest your friend contacts Customer Service and explains the situation including the bit that she bought the GoPro from them previously.

Sometimes the stores can be awkward so if they are no help move onto Customer Service, they aren't based in the stores so are more likely to take an overall view of the situation especially as it isn't their store's profit margin being hit.
