Buying parents house

Hi all,
I've had a search through the threads to try and answer my questions and have come up with more questions now than answers. The basic details of my situation are;
1.My wife and I are planning to buy her parents house at below market value.
2. The property has an annexe which the in-laws will move into.
3. The main house and the annexe will be split into separate titles and they will own the annexe and we will own the house.
The solicitors have explained how all this works legally and my accountant has explained all the tax implications. There is one key issue which I need to clarify.
The annexe and house have two adjoining doors and share utilities and a boiler. We have to separate the buildings by closing off the door spaces and having a new boiler fitted in the annexe and separate utility supplies. Do we need to get any form of planning consent/ permission from our local planning office?

Hi, as I stated the legal and financial aspects have all been covered. It's the physical act of separating the properties and any planning issues that we are concerned about.0

In that case, your question isn't about Buying, Selling or Rentingyou might be better asking a BG to move your thread to the In My Home (inc DIY) Board

The local authority has been advised that there will be two separate dwellings for council tax purposes?
You should check with your local authority whether any form of planning permission is needed/building control regulations to be met?0 -

If you are getting a mortgage, are the lenders happy to have the split happen?
Have you actually talked to them about this plan?0 -
As above, you'll need planning permission to split into two dwellings anyway (assuming there isn't an existing consent for that), though not specifically for blocking up an internal doorway.
But building control will need to be involved for the internal works.0
