Are Audi Parts Expensive?

Thinking of getting a ~£4500 Audi A3.
Are parts expensive purely from the Audi name? I know they will be a little but are they hugely over-inflated?

What parts are you talking about and what A3 is it?
If its a 2.0 tdi 2006 then;
£12 for rear pads
£24 for a front disc
£50 for a shock
£350 for a clutch and solid flywheel
If you go to an Audi dealer they will be more.0 -
The parts from GSF will be exactly the same but without the Audio box that costs double that of the actual part.
A4 heater motor £380 from Audi or £80 from GSF. And it was the same brand so not an inferior part.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Interestingly back in the mid 90's GSF part quality was better than EuroCarParts and prices more competitive.
Now whenever I have tried to buy parts the better quality stuff is at EuroCarParts and very often GSF are more expensive with some of the parts of lower quality.
Though perhaps I have just been unlucky with the stuff I have been comparing prices for?0 -
A little bit more than most other cars of the same size, just avoid the maindealer to keep your costs down.0

Sorry, I meant just in general.
Thanks though0 -
Yes its cost can be more than other cars0

Parts for Audi cars are not that expensive if you go for aftermarket parts, however, the North South engine configuration does mean that the front end of the car needs to be dismantled to replace timing belt and water pump which quite labour intensive so worth checking if this has been done recently.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0

Surely an A3 is transverse engine, not N/S? I run a TT which is a very similar platform, that's transverse. Changing the timing belt requires a level of manual dexterity that I chose to let someone else demonstrate, but it was fiddly rather than impossible. Dismantling the front of the car wouldn't have helped as the belt is on the side.
But as others have said there are lots of aftermarket parts suppliers around, and there's also TPS who can supply genuine parts at trade price. Some parts are dealer-only (as with any car) and some dealer parts are cheaper than aftermarket.0 -

North South FWD is an Audi thing, however, doing a google search it seems that with the A3 it depends on engine, it looks like the 1.9 TDi is transverse yet the 2.0 FSi is North South.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -
As a generality, most Audi mechanical parts will be the same/very similar to those used on other VAG (VW, Skoda, Seat,) equivalent models - and sometimes buying the Skoda or Seat parts can be cheaper (but can take sometime to find out the relevant P/Ns).
OTOH, most body parts, interior trim, wheels are bespoke Audi, and so you will pay Audi prices!0
