BT Call plans - Confusing!!

Hi all,

I have a call plan with BT: Broadband + Calls and Anytime Calls What does the term 'calls' mean? My old package it meant Evening and w/end calls. BT say this year it means calls over the internet and NOT via the 'normal phone line' Apparently there is no evening and week end free calls. You have to buy a separate package called 'anytime calls' to cover evening and week ends which includes week calls too. All this is confusing!! Please can somebody explain. I always thought VOIP was free, are BT trying to 'pull a fast one' here.

Mike.

With BT line rental their are three 'call plans', the first is included with line rental, that's 'weekends', evening and weekends is £3.50 , and anytime calls is £8.50 per month,
There may have been old broadband deals that included 'calls' but now to get Infinity or regular 'BT' broadband, you need BT line rental, and the line rental can have one of the three call plans, there should be deals to be had on the price , provided you agree to extend your minimum term
  • On a semi related noted, after yet another bill increase, I decided to compare my new bill with the one I received at this time last year to see where the increases had occurred. Whilst doing this I noticed that whilst the BT website shows the cost of BT Infinity 1 (at its full price) to be £20pm, I am paying £26pm. My bill breakdown shows that I have a combined broadband and phone package which includes weekend calls for which they are charging £26pm, but I also pay £8.50pm for all inclusive calls. Has anyone else come across this as it seems as though I am paying for two call packages simultaneously?

Everyone who buys a call plan in effect has an element of duplication, if you buy an 'anytime' call plan, but only ever make calls at the weekend, then you are wasting your money, as calls at the weekend are included with the line rental anyway, anyone with 'anytime' calls should weigh up if the cost of the plan exceeds what the calls made would have cost if they were individually charged for,

Niccijl50, if you are paying £26 for Infinity 1, when the current 'list price' is £20, you should really contact BT , but presumably £26 was a price you agreed to, if out of any minimum term, you should be able to negotiate a deal,

If you make two or three calls per week to 01, 02 or 03 numbers during weekdays, each call around five minutes long, and paying a per-minute rate for each call, you will have already spent more than the cost of the Anytime unlimited call plan.

The vast majority of calls to these numbers are made as part of an inclusive allowance. It is rare to find anyone paying a per-minute rate for these calls.

One important point is that BT is the only major landline provider to not have inclusive calls to mobile numbers. Expect that to change in the next year or so.

The full price for Unlimited BT Infinity 1 is £26 per month. The price on the website is £20 for 12 months and then £26 from month 13.

If your paying £26 and are out of your minimum term then you need to renegotiate with BT a new cheaper deal or move to another isp as your paying more than you need to be.
