Completely agree about the true meaning of Xmas that’s why I’m not going mad with food as it’s just a roast for us ( with chicken to save money).

You’ll prob feel like your on annual leave until January, it must be a strange but nice feeling.
  • Yes definitely. When my children were tiny I had a 3 year career break but from the age of 18 to almost 58 as I am now I have always worked, although part time in recent years. It is almost surreal and I have to resist the urge to check emails. Still my DH is keeping me occupied bringing down Xmas decorations from the loft :rotfl::rotfl:

    Morning,

I’m going to attempt my Xmas food shop today that way I can cancel my expensive delivery due tomorrow.

I’m thinking of signing up to the frugal living challenge but not £4000 as it’s not realistic for a family of our size, I worked out that if we spent £250 p/m on food that is already £3k a year just on food. Don’t think I could manage £1k for mobiles, clothes, entertainment etc!

    Hi Debtaghh

I’ve just stumbled across your diary and wanted to pop in and wish you good luck on your journey. I am in a very similar situation as you debt wise spent on holidays, household, days out, food shops you name it. and this time last year was a complete wreck. I contacted stepchange who were wonderful, I stayed with them for a couple of months and then organised and set up my own DMP, It’s the best thing I’ve done honestly.

The DMP thread is what’s got me where I am today, I can’t thank the members on there enough :A

I have no idea how long it will take me to pay it off but I’m taking one step at a time and can honestly say our creditors have been absolutely fine. No people at the door, no threatening letters etc.

Well done on the Lidl shop, it’s my new favourite place to shop now.
Try not to stress yourself too much over the debt total, I try to forget the overall total and look at mine now in £500 chunks it makes it a little easier to bear.

Just to add, my DH tends to tag along on this journey, he is happy for me to organise everything (typical man) :p and that’s why I tend to say ‘I’ when talking of our DMP.

I’ve subscribed to your diary and will be right beside you cheering you along. We can help each other hobble to the finish line together.

Thank you so much. I love Lidl and also too they are so much cheaper and it feels like you get so much more for your money!

I will have a look at the dmp section. Do you have a diary? If yes, I’ll subscribe.

In one respect I’m looking forward to this Christmas up be over so I can start budgeting properly!
