I want to stop drowning

Morning,
Life feels so busy at the minute. I'm still waiting on a contract from the job and a contract about the house. We don't know if the landlord has agreed certain things including the two year contract.
On the money side things aren't great. I need work clothes for a start as well as new shoes. Dh has been paid loads of overtime and has received I think the best pay he has ever had. We have an expensive time ahead though. The car needs it's mot and car tax. The move is going to cost us a fortune.
Have a lovely day everyone.0 -
Hi,
I've had to do a money transfer due to this move, we just don't have the money for the admin fees, van hire etc. My dad is lending us the deposit and then we should get most back from our current house although the deposit for the new house is more hence another shortage. I know it's not ideal but what else could I do? I'll update my signature now. I have still cleared some debt from Oct and am hoping to hit under £40k by the end of the year.0 -
Credit cards goals:
End of may: clear another £10 to bring it down to £44800
End of June: £44000
End of July: £43150
End of August £42350
End of September £41500
End of October £40750
End of November £40000
End of Dec £390000 -

As you say not ideal but in your circumstances I don't suppose you had much choice. Your budget is just very tight to save for this with the amount you are having to pay on debt repayments. I do hope things get easier once you are also working.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Morning,
Life has been so busy. I've started to pack and I start my job in a couple of weeks. I've been really worried about the money side of this move. A family member has seen how worried I've been and is going to give me £2000 towards my rent for the first year as a gift! I'm so pleased. Over the next 14 months we need to clear as much debt as possible to reduce our minimums to feel less stressed and worried when we are fully paying the rent ourselves!0 -
That is very kind of your family member and will help lots I am sure. As you say continuing to reduce the debt will help eventually get you some breathing space.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Morning,
I've hit my may target of clearing more than a tenner by £20. All helps! Need this debt gone!0 -
Morning,
I've had to buy work clothes as I haven't been in the employed world for many years. I've tried to do it on a budget and still need some more bits.
I'm feeling anxious about this house business as I fear we are putting ourselves in a worst financial situation. I also feel we have no choice. There is the odd cheaper nice property that comes up but no guarantee. We have an offer of being able to stay at a family members house while they are on holiday for a 8 weeks . Do we take this house and try and find the money or not take it and leave our current place and stay at the family house until right property comes up? The only problem is they will be back end of August meaning what do we do then if we still haven't found anywhere? It will cost us £1500 staying there due to extra fuel and contribution. We would save money of approx £1500 over that period but what if nothing else comes up? I just don't know what to do as I like the new house but am scared of the financial impact. We will only be able to afford it if my husband gets at least 15 hours overtime and I make £200 from my business. There is no guarantee of this income and feel it's a massive risk but so is being homeless!0 -
I don't think I would risk leaving your current house without moving to a new one as I don't think there is always a great choice of properties over the summer period although I don't know much about the rental market and obviously don't know what area you are in. You know the chances of a cheaper one coming up better than anyone as you have been looking for a while. It doesn't sound like staying in your relatives will save you anything.
You say that you can only afford the house if you include overtime and your business income. If you are going to be working will this not help as that is more guaranteed than either of the first two options? Of course you need to make rent a priority so if you cannot make the extra income then that is the time you will have to consider a DMP if you cannot cut other costs.
Hopefully as your children get older and you get more work experience you will have the opportunity to do more hours which will help. You can get just two pairs of cheap trousers or a skirt and two or three shirts/tops for work. You don't need a full work wardrobe straight away. Just wash the shirts every other day.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Thanks.
I've worked out we would save £1500 staying with a relative.
We have to move as we can't stay in our current house any longer. I've accounted my new salary but I will be paying childcare plus things were very tight anyway. We don't save for anything which then means we do money transfers and I really want to avoid doing them. I've worked out we need to save £350 per month for sch trips, clothing, dentist, car, presents etc. My new salary will be taken up by that and childcare. So my issue is where do we find this extra money for the higher rent etc? The family member that was going to give us 2k is now being funny with us so can't guarantee that either. I cannot do any thing to affect my credit as the estate agents ask have you ever had bad credit , Iva etc. We can't risk in the future not getting a house due to our credit.
In the future I can work more hours etc but I'm worried about now and the next couple of years, I just don't know what to do.0
