O/S Daily Wednesday 27 July 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, cloudy, overcast and raining steadily, ground already very wet, air is cooler than it was, but not cold.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, he was going to cut the grass today - he'll have to do that later if it dries up or do it another day.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, tonight is likely to be using up LO's from the fridge with some other stuff added.

Work yesterday was a quiet start then busier than we expected. We had management over on a surprise visit to advise that we are being restructured again (we had been told earlier in the year that something would be happening within our team but didn't know what, we now know what that is and there are job cuts yet again, but I'm hoping that I can hold onto my job as it is - we'll have to wait and see). I'm back to work this morning, and working all day as I'm still doing extra hours - these will continue until the end of the year.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone.

    Thanks for the thread nmlc.

Hope you had a good birthday Speky.

My IT support visit was fine. Turns out she needs some help with writing letters for her business but won't entertain learning how to use her Mac book. I brought it home with me to pull of previous letters. Later that evening a young neighbour rang about her Mac though I fear it's been fried. Advised her to make an appointment with a tech person at the big Glasgow shop. Sad thing is that she's never made a back up and is doing photography at school. I'm hoping that the techs can salvage her work!

This morning I'm off to town to meet up with a uni colleague who taught my course previously. Time to knuckle down to some serious planning. I'll pick her brains and maybe get some materials from her. So far retirement is going well. :rotfl:

Looks like the rain may hold off today. Yesterday there was rain all day and so much low cloud that Jura was shrouded again, this morning the island and the sea have both appeared.

I hope everyone has a good Wednesday.
  • Morning folks. Evidence of overnight rain but now stopped and looks to be brightening. The washing should get pegged out. Thanks for the start NMLC. More problems for you on the work front. Hope your job is safe.

Yesterday was a wasted trip as far as a wedding outfit went! I don't know what's happened to the fashion floor in House of Fraser but the concessions up there have dwindled dramatically. Still a decent selection selling casual ware but, alas, very few "posh" frock outlets. As is the case in most sales, lots of tiny and larger sizes but very few 12/14s. I tried one dress and jacket on in Jacques Vert but not enamoured with it! Fancy posh is just not me! I think I will try and get to Boundary Mills next week and hope for more luck!

The day wasn't entirely wasted though. We had a nice lunch and bottle of wine and picked up a couple of bargains in the Yorkshire Trading Outlet. A large square Mason Cash red ceramic baking dish for £3.99 and some Rayware white plates for every day use for £1 each.

One or two jobs to catch up on are lined up this morning and this afternoon we are picking DD and BF up from the airport after their week in Spain. The DGDs are due back as well this afternoon. It's been nice to have a week's reprieve from childminding but, even so, we have missed them!

Have a good day and (((HUGS))) where needed. HILSTEP hopefully life will be a bit easier for you with regular visits from the carers. Take care all xx

  • Morning, ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Yesterday was disaster day. OH came in n from the garden after his siesta saying he was dizzy, 2 hours later he was still dizzy, so an emergency call and para medics......eventually he was taken to hospital. I did not go with him, but started phoning just after 9pm. Phoned every half hour, waiting at least 20 minutes before hanging up. I gave up at midnight. Phoned this morning, he is still in A & E waiting for a bed!!

The LRI is well known for being busy and constantly misses its targets. So now I have to wait will ring later this morning and see if he has been moved before I decide to go in to see him. At least parking should be easier now they have the new car park. I do think that, although there is a new A & E being built, the situation will not alter.

I will be spending time working on some UFO' s I have and want to finish.

It's quite cloudy with his morning and a lot cooler than it has been. I will have to water the garden if we do not get any rain. Disappointed the cauliflowers are not good, they seem to be stunted. Will not bother with them again, it's the second time we have tried to grow them, will have to eat cabbage instead, plenty of those doing well.

Good morning, rain overnight has helped the plants. It has stopped now, so may be able to reach work without getting too wet.

Deleted_User I hope your DH is better today.

I must have been tired, slept like a log for 7 hours. Now must whizz off to work.

No real OS content to my day except that I'll probably be working quite late and will seek out leftovers when I come home.

Hope people have a good day.

    Morning everyone,

Grey with light rain falling, the garden will be sucking it up :)

Day off today but couldn't get back to sleep after waking up at normal time, how typical! My OH has promised me lunch out today but other than that I have no special plans, just want to relax and spend time in the garden etc. Am feeling really quite wrung out and tired at the moment.

Hope today provides some answers CSARINA and your OH feels better soon.
Love the sound of your red baking dish TA, do collect Mason Cash when I can.
Hope your job is safe NMLC

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

    Morning All

The sun is shining out the back, big black clouds out the front!

Budgie woke me up at 6.30 silly thing, I'll be glad when it goes home! Will feed the bunnies in a while - I was very brave yesterday and let them have a run around the garden while I cleaned out their hutch.

Washing on the line which is a novelty, I'm sure it will have a few more rinses before I get fed up and bring it in. DW emptied and kitchen wiped down.

Went swimming for 9 yesterday to find that the pool doesn't open until 10 on Tuesdays! Went back again and it was fairly quiet, going to go again this morning then meeting a work colleague for lunch, cinema later.

tru - sorry to hear about little chickie.
RR - Is Evie allowed to have a run yet?
Glad you are feeling better AOD.
    Hope OH is ok csarina.

Enjoy your days. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone,

Okay, hands up who stole the sun?!

Thanks for the thread nmlc. Hope your job is safe, it's such a worry X
Hope you had a good birthday Speky - new sunnies, how fab :)
csarina - sorry to hear about DH. Hope he is feeling brighter today
Gers, if you have five minutes can you pop down to Kent to look at my laptop (joking....)
redruby - rather you then me with the visitors today !!
    Welcome TnT

Did I mention it's cloudy? No washing to go on luckily but I didn't get to the ironing yesterday so will tackle that tonight. Yesterday's day off was lovely. Spent a few hours clothes shopping with DD plus a quick lunch in M&S. Then popped back to get MIL a vase from Laura Ashley for her birthday (didn't have it in Bromley so went to Orpington store). Still no present for FIL but have a couple of ideas that I will run past DH when he rings later. Also did a meal plan for the month and booked a tesco order for Thursday evening with all main meat and fish components. Our food budget has been blown these past few months with DH being off and him shopping for bits every few days.

I'm at the church this morning then going to collect a cross stitch that I put in for framing. Will take another (a gift for my friends 50th in October) whilst I'm at it.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning :hello:

csarina That's a ridiculous amount of time to wait! Hope OH is OK x

Master tru is doing the doors today. I got all the housework done yesterday – even managed to hoover with my left hand – so he can get on with it without me getting in his way :D I'll just need to run the hoover over the landing again when he's finished. Normally he'd trim the doors where he's fitting them but Scampi likes to 'help' with everything, lol, so he'll be blocked from going upstairs and the landing will be a workshop for the day. Not sure what to do with myself today, I was hoping to get some crochet done but this rope burn won't let me. I'll probably end up watching a film or reading a book.

Early start for me today DD2 is going on a coach trip and needed my booster seat, so I dropped it off and gave the DGC £2 each towards ice cream, not much but all I had on me. It's lashing down here so no need to water the garden today.
Thanks for starting the thread nmlc, hope your job is safe
Brain is in gear today so belated Happy Birthday to Speky.
