Lost Item with Hertz

Firstly, I just want to comment on the incredibly bad customer service with Hertz, in case anyone is thinking of renting with them. I have been shouted at over the phone when I called their customer service.

On to my point, I have left my phone in a rental car in Spain. From what I've heard, it is quite normal for me to have to go pick up my lost item and the rental company does not send this back. Does anyone have any experience of this? As I am now back from my holiday, it's not really an option to go all the way back to pick up my phone. It's not really affordable, especially now in the summer holidays. Hertz have told me I must get a courier to pick up the phone.

This has been easier said than done. I cannot find a courier that will collect an unpackaged item, and of course Hertz do not provide packaging.

Does anyone know of a courier that will provide this?

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

We left something at a hotel in turkey a few years back and had similar issues.

With nothing to lose I appealed to locals in the town via trip adviser forums, and a wonderful ex-pat lady picked it up, packaged it and got it back to us. I paid her relative in the uk to pass on the cost.

Is that a possibility if you could liaise with the hire office in Spain?

  • thank you @jfdi!

I did contact their office but they were really unhelpful and they won't post anything. A courier did suggest to me to send an empty box with a letter declaring that I take responsibility for the postage. The courier would then go pick the box up.

I will definitely try your approach first. Hopefully someone there will be able to help. Thank you!!

I left something at a hotel in Mexico. DHL allowed me to send an empty box to the hotel, have the hotel put the item into the box, then send it on to me. It wasn't cheap but it worked.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
