Hi All,
I just had a quote to fit in a wood burning stove. In his itemised quote the installer listed "Hetas Certificate - £100". Found it abit odd, just wanted to confirm if this is correct? Or am I being taken for a ride?
Thanks for your input.

When I had my wood burner fitted last year, the HETAS certificate was included in the price. I understand the fitting company has to issue one when the job is completed by law. My insurance company wanted a copy of it.
To charge £100 for it seems outrageous to me. Ask him if he's going to charge you an admin fee as well for issuing it!"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
Stove installations and HETAS are a licence to print money since stoves became fashionable. I installed mine myself years ago but I'd give up my stove at the drop of a hat for GCH.0

You do not have to have a HETAS certificate. You can get the installation signed off by the local council's building inspector if you prefer. Your insurance company may insist on a HETAS certificate if it chooses, but it isn't a legal requirement.
And yes, £100 is a rip-off. Always get multiple quotes.0 -
FYI it costs £120 for the council building inspector to sign off the install if you do it yourself. You could get away without it being signed off but you might have an issue when/if you sell the house.
BTW I fitted my own stove and twin wall chimney and had the council sign it off, although by the time I'd spec'd it and fitted it I knew more about the building regs than the building inspector as mostly its not really their bagOne man's folly is another man's wife. Helen Roland (1876 - 1950)0
