NHS pre-employment checks

Hi all,

I am due to go to my local hospital tomorrow for my ID checks which I have all these information for an an occupational health clearance check.

The position is for a clerical officer and I have a list of my vaccination history to show them.

Does anyone know what will happen at the occupational health check and what should I wear as this isn't an interview.

Thanks in advance :)

Wear normal clothes - you will have a basic medical, to ensure you are fit to start work. Any health conditions need to be disclosed.

A health check is exactly what it says on the tin - the occupational part just relates it to work.

My Mrs has a colourful medical history and was very concerned about the health checks prior to starting what could be considered to be a stressful job in the nhs.

The process turned out to be very respectful of her medical history and all went well. Don't worry about it.

Will they not know my medical history given that it's my local hospital or do they need to comply with data protection?

Just wear normal day clothes they ain't that bothered about clothing it's not an interview. Usually depending on trust policy and if your working direct with patients you may need some jabs I think it's to check you have the right ones previously. Also if there's any conditions you have and how they can support you in them maybe skin issue as you wash hands a lot

They will need to comply with data protection if they didn't with you as an employee imagine what they could do with other people.

They may ask you to sign a form to say they can look at Notes if needed my occupational health I very much doubt they will request patient notes

No. This kind of information is held by your GP not your local hospital. You could get the information from your GP, but I'm not sure how long it will take, or if there is a cost. They will simply take a blood sample and test your immunity. You will have to go back for 3 Hep B shots anyway.

    Hi,

I attended yesterday and was in and out within a matter of minutes, couldn't quite believe it, apparently my immunisation history from my GP shows all my vaccinations are up to date so I received clearance immediately.

I have also received confirmation my DBS check has been completed and my employer has been directly notified, reference has been provided by my previous employer and they have all of my ID.

Is the next step the letter or email confirming my start date?, would you happen to know how long it may be now before I receive this as I am very eager to start.

Why should a clerical officer job need a DBS check? You're not working with children are you?

Not directly and that stage of the dbs wasn't required it was a search of the police records only probably why it came back so quickly
