What you are saying my understanding is that, do not downgrade to flex a/c but switch out to another bank (possibly also with switching incentive) and then open a new on as soon as the switch completed. Am I understand correctly ???

Correct. Try it and let us know if it works. It worked for me a couple of years ago and I've heard of success with others.

Hi Ed-1 I will but, unfortunately I just converted my Flex a/c to Flex Direct a/c a few minutes ago. I did this because I know I have nothing to loose (e.g no credit search) but might be something to gain. Close to the end of the month I will try to put one thousand pound and I will see whether I get 5% interest. If not I will downgrade it again or might switch it if there is an incentive elsewhere.

I will let you you know what I get ...

Be careful. I tried this depositing towards the end of the month and I initially got 5% on it but by the time the end of the next month came it had reverted to 1% a couple of days into the next month so I got 1% for most of the month.

Cheers for the warning. In this case I will try to do it in two consecutive months. After interest is paid I will move it back to the origin and the put it to NW ac again close the end of next month and will check the interest in the following month.

If I do not get 5% I will try to switch it out to another bank (with switching incentive, if any exist). As soon as the switching is completed, I will open a new flex direct a/c.
