bad diagnosis
i brought a vehicle a non starter i took it to a garage their diagnosis was that the engine had slipped its timing belt and that the engine was no good i purchased another engine at a cost of £350 they have had to swap all the ANCILLARIES over. Now if it does not start because of a ancillary problem and not the engine where do i stand regarding the cost as of yet it stands at about £1100

Did they tell you why it was a non starter?Dwy galon, un dyhead,

Sorry, I have to question why someone who needs to rely on the services of a garage to diagnose their vehicle would buy a non-runner in the first place, no matter how much of 'bargin, nuttin wrong with it' it may seem...0

i brought this vehicle not knowing the reason for its non starting problem because its is worth 3 times the amount i paid for it even paying the garage what they want its still worth more on the private market but it still does not warrant paying out for an engine and swapping all the ancillaries over if they got the diagnosis wrong0

So, you knew it didn't work when you bought it and now you know just what is wrong with it you are unhappy? Surely that's like buying a derelict property on the cheap & then wanting your money back because you cant move straight into it?Dwy galon, un dyhead,

Righto. Have you considered the possibility that the person selling it knew full well how much it would cost and how much it's worth, and they wanted rid of it in light of that?
If it were worth paying a garage to fix it, they'd have done that, in most cases.
Best of luck, anyway, but I think the time to ask what would happen if an engine swap doesn't fix it was probably before the engine swap...0 -

maybe you just have not read the post correct but lets say the injectors had gone on the vehicle and you took it the garage and they said it requires another engine which costs like mine £1100 and you could have got injectors for say £200 would you be happy with that0 -
Could it be the case that thr garage was correct that the old engine was junk but didn't or couldn't see the ancillary issue until after completing the work?0

If there was no way of testing the ancillaries then they would not be able to diagnose them properly without a few hours work.
Hae they put the engine in and it doesnt start or is this IF they put the engine in and it doesnt start?
To be honest, if they have charged you for the diagnostic and you have supplied a secondhand engine for them to fit you are on a loser anyway if it doest work.
Good luck - what car is it by the way?0
