Smell from shower (I think) stuff to disolve lodged hair?

Long term you really need to use a hair catcher/strainer over yr shower waste to avoid this problem. It is visible but I much prefer having it there to clogging the pipe work up with loads of hair and gunk and having to yank it all back out - yuk!0

Use caustic soda. Not sure where to buy it though, haven't found a shop in ages
If you need any, you can still buy it online:

Go to your local plumbers' merchant and ask their advice.0

Caustic soda is the best. But unsure on the damage on plastic pipes bit. I use it down my shower, as there's so much hair gets stuck and the water begins to get v slow in draining till showering gets like a paddling pool.
It's easy to get in a hardware store but beware if you buy somewhere like Poundland, as it says Caustic soda on the bottle but if you look more carefully on the back, it's been watered down with other stuff hence doesn't work too well so you want to make sure you get 100% caustic soda.0 -
Most of the drain cleaners are based on caustic soda anyway. Plastic/pvc pipes are pretty much unaffected by most chemicals. The chemicals to avoid are particular solvents, but it's unlikely you would be randomly pouring solvent down the drain as it's usually used for a specific purpose.0

justaquestion wrote: »I don't really understand "bidet could be causing negative pressure, that's emptying he shower trap" Do you mean that by using the bidet somehow air is being pushed back up the shower trap, fitting a valve will that involve lifting shower tray, or would it help just to put a plug cover in shower waste
while not in use?
Assuming the below:
Shower/Bath==========Sink/Bidet=============Soil Stack
Sometimes when a sink/bidet/whatever is emptied, the water travelling down the waste pulls the water out of the trap in the shower/bath. This allows sewer gasses to travel up and out of the shower/bath waste.
Running the shower for a few seconds would rule this out, as it would fill the trap.
The valve would be fitted between the shower and the bidet, if that was the problem.0 -
I had this problem especially having teenage girls with long hair. I tried allsorts and eventually I bought the cheapest hair removing cream and squirted that down and it worked. Did it once a month after that and had no more problems.0
