Hi,
My partner and I of 17 years are going our separate ways, we have two children aged 16 and 9 both of them will be staying with there mother in the house, I'm not entitled to claim any anything from the house as my name is not on the mortgage and I cannot prove I've made any financial contributions to the house as everything is in her name and I gave her cash towards the bills.
As I have to leave (very soon) I wondered if anyone could help with information on what I might be entitled to as I only work part time and 16 hours per week and get just over £400 per month, I have no savings and barely any money in the bank as my wages paid for car finance, insurance, car tax and the BT bill every month, I have no where to go at the moment and no idea if I will be able to claim any benifits as I am on a low wage.
Any help and advice will be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks.

Is there any illnesses or disabilities that prevent you from working more?
On NMW on 16hrs you should be on at least £499 per month.0 -
maybe some housing benefit depending where you move to0

Hi Darksparkle,
Thanks for the reply, and your right about the NMW it was my fault hitting the wrong number and not reading as I was typing.
I do have a medical implant (spinal cord stimulator) for back and leg pain but it wouldnt affect me working more hours, the fact is in the warehouse I work everybody is part time.
I did have an assessment for disability but was not awarded it.0 -
Hi Caz3121,
Would like a 1 bed flat close to where I am now for helping with the kids and getting to work but I just dont know if I could afford it with all the bills that go with it, sounds silly but I have only lived with parents and now my ex-partner and never on my own .0 -

Unless disabled (and receiving a qualifying benefit) you wouldn't qualify for WTC unless working 30hrs per week.
Could you look for another job or a second job?
I would suggest using a benefit calculator such as entitledto for help with housing.0 -
You could book an appointment with a Benefits Adviser at CAB and discuss your options.0

is your (PIP ?) claim still open ? (i think you have 1 month to send off the start of the appeal)
i would very much consider appealing if your back / legs etc cause you problems (it is suggestive they do from your post etc)
PIP is to help people with working etc,
alot of have to appeal, and it can go either way, but for alot of people, it can turn out you are infact eligable for the benefit, despite the original ruling (BUT obviously subjective).
you would be enitled for housing benefit @ single person rate i think (based on me guessing that you are over 35) (need to check councils websites for rates).
BT etc is very expensive...
like as internet/tv luxury > could you find a phone contact with internet and then tether the connection ?, then watch bandwith etc, to save money ?
(do without landline as have mobile etc).
sorry, random ideas
but best to speak to cab ?.
kind regards!0 -
Thank you for all the replies.
I'm always on the look out for extra work and I'm looking for something that will fit in with the school pick up and what I'm working now.
I have been to CAB but I didn't seem to get much info so I think I will go back and try again.
My PIP claim was over a year ago so I don't think theres anything I can do with that now.
I've checked out the Housing Benefit rate at the CAB and its around £130 per week for a single person in Thurrock.
The BT is no longer in my name and has been taken over by my ex, I told her if I'm not living here then I'm not paying for it as I don't have the luxury of enough spare money.0 -
If you only work part time would it make more sense for you to stay with the kids and your ex to move out?Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
