and I was told if I wasn't in bed by 10 PM they'd come and spank my bottom.
Still waiting.
The point that G_M is making is that the landlord can put anything that they want to put in a tenancy agreement. That does not mean that it is legally enforceable.
The agreement can say that the property has to be professionally cleaned but that does not mean that the Tenancy Deposit Scheme arbitration service will allow the landlord to retain part of the deposit if you do the cleaning yourself.0 -
I had mine done as it was in the contract plus I knew they would take money out if it wasn't. As we had just bought our first house so were busy cleaning that, painting etc that it was £120 (carpets etc inc) well spent as we didn't have the time. They took copies of our receipts at check out too.

End of tenancy cleans/inspections are not "all that". I was promised one by my LA before I moved into a property. They said it had been given a full end of tenancy clean.
Walked in on what was supposed to be the first day to find the fridge and dishwasher full of food debris. Clearly had not been checked. Later transpired the dishwasher did not even work hence the debris. An end of tenancy inspection should have also picked up a failed integrated appliance. (Built into kitchen). Previous tenant was never challenged over why they failed to report it.
When I challenged the LA over whether any cleaning had actually taken place they said it had been given the "once over". :rotfl:
To this date they never provided a receipt to prove it either.0 -

Now, about that spanking.....0
