Calibration after windscreen replacement.
Autoglass were unable to replace the chip on my '14 Nissan Qashqai Tekna and so I am having to have a replacement screen fitted.
The problem I have is with recalibration.
I am insured with Aviva who charge me a £75 excess for screen replacement. That's fine but Autoglass tell me that after the screen is replaced it must be recalibrated at a Nissan dealer.
However I have found information on-line that indicates that Autoglass now have the equipment to perform the calibration on-site at the time of screen replacement. However I am not being offered that.
Obviously if I take the vehicle to my Nissan Dealer it will cost me an arm and a leg. I would have thought that since it is a safety issue and has to be performed when the screen is replaced it should be part of the claim, either paid for by Aviva or Autoglass.
If a car is involved in an accident and has to have a panel replaced the subsequent respray is part of the claim. Surely recalibration should be dealt with similarly.
Anyone have experience of this?
Thanks

From the autoglass website:
Your calibration appointment
If your vehicle is fitted with a safety technology that requires a calibration, we'll inform you when you make your appointment. One of our expert technicians will then perform the calibration during your appointment.

Sounds like they're pulling a fast one with you0 -
"Safety issue"...? It's merely going to be a question of when the autolights and autowipers kick in, because the replacement screen may have minor differences in the amount of light transmission to the sensors. If you're that worried, turn them on yourself until you can get it booked in...
Some Autoglass depots or fitters may have the equipment, perhaps not all do.0 -
Isn't the safety issue to do with the camera (white line etc is a safety issue)
See whether avivA will cover this or allow you to use another company that can do the job0 -
When AG replaced the screen on my BMW earlier in the year (which in fairness they did an excellent job of) I had a long chat with the fitter about the new calibration kit they had - but he suggested that people would still have to go to the dealerships in some cases, due to the complexity of some of the systems precluding calibration at the roadside/car park.0

as posted above , if the job cannot be completed by autoglass , then the insurer should authorize the vehicle to be taken to a dealer.
and YES I have read the notes from autoglass , and they should advise if they have premises (close by) with the correct floor and equipment to complete the job .
if not , they should decline the job, or foot the calibration fee (main dealer) out of THIER insurance takeSave a Rachael
