Santander 1|2|3 Current Account

Hi all
I want to open 123 account but I have been warned by 2 of my work mates that Santander customer service is very bad and opening account takes long time.
Is this right? do you guys have any problems with your 123 account?

Thank you

No, they had a bad reputation before bringing out the 123 account but it's improved a lot in the last few years.

I've personally never spoke to anyone or visited a branch apart from opening the regular saver a few months ago and the Internet banking is fine.

    I concur with bidadaj.

I held off opening an account with Santander for ages due to their bad press but I've now had the account for roughly a couple of years with no issues at all.

Likewise I'm happy with Santander, and conversely have found that First Direct, who seemed to have a good reputation, are bureaucratic and cumbersome, so I pay little attention to subjective opinions of customer service!

No issues with Santander's customer service from me.

I've found their customer service pretty dire, but then you don't need it very often. Opening went well, no problems there.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

I'm happy with Santander too - no problems and not difficult to open or operate.

At the start of July I opened a first direct account, it wasn't difficult but cumbersome. Now got a username, a password and five other pieces of security information plus a telephone security number. When calling them I am asked to make sure that no-one else can overhear the conversation, it's not being recorded at my end and I'm not using a VOIP system. The secure key takes three weeks to arrive in the post. Not complaining as I'm taking advantage of their 6% saver.

I can't tell if other banks I'm with are lax with security or first direct is over the top. I just live with it!

I've found service in my local branch and by secure message very good, phone support is too 'hit and miss' so haven't used for a long time.

No account issues - I've contacted them to close old accounts, correct my mobile number after A&L were 'incorporated', and problem transferring a M&S ISA in.
