A lot of smaller dealers would fit used DMFs.
The price difference is enormous.

I've fitted used to a golf and a mondeo whilst working for an independent. The way they saw it was our wages had to be paid anyway so it wasn't 'extra' cash to be paid if we had to do it a second time, we'd just fit it around other jobs. The latter easily taking most of a day with subframe needing to come down.

But it all depends on what type of dealer it is... Not all dealers have their own mechanics, not all dealers have sufficient number of ramps or resources to take on such a risk. As doing things like this can easily cost you a ramp for a week whilst parts get replaced.

On a £6500 car though a dealer may not see it as a risk worth taking and profits larger than that of a car a third of its price.

I've just quoted a brand new LUK DMF for £200+VAT.

Whats the dealer going to save compared to getting one pulled out of a scrapper and "hoping" its not on its way out too - maybe £50?

Cant see any dealer taking that risk, bearing in mind as Bigjl said, the biggest cost is the labour.
