Possbly getting Fibre installed - some questions

With standard copper cabling there's a voltage on the line which means that in the event of a power cut the phone at least still works.
What happens if you're on Fibre Broadband and there's a power cut? Is the fibre phone line then dead or is there a way to ensure that it continues to work?
If if there is some kind of battery backup in the home, presumably the exchange would also need some kind of battery backup if that too suffers from a power cut?
Looks like I'll be getting FTTP (I live in the middle of nowhere) but whatever the answer to the above does that apply to both FTTP and FTTC?
As an aside, presumably any normal phone (wired or cordless, old or new) will still work when Fibre is installed?

I assume the phone still works with fibre. Broadband won't as router needs power.
Cordless phones won't work.
It's fibre to the street cabinet.0 -
If you get FTTP from BT and take FVA(Fibre Voice Access) you will get a Battery Backup Unit installed at the same time as your final FTTP installation.
As far as I know only BT will supply voice over fibre at the moment other suppliers use voip.
I did enquire about FVA in May,there is no reduction in line rental, though after a bit of pushing did get offered a £3p/m reduction. Was also informed that there was a possibility of the copper landline being stopped and taken by another user as it would no longer be live.meaning a possible reactivation charge if needed at a later date.
If FTTP is taken without FVA the original copper line is still used for voice calls as now and any phones will continue to work.0 -
Thanks for the reply.
My provider isn't BT in this case, it's Zen Internet. So does that mean I wouldn't be able to have FVA installed?0 -
I don't believe Zen have a fibre voice product, only standard over copper. There was talk on forums about 2 years ago of Zen starting a fibre voice package but I think it got put on the back burner.
Only BT for FVA or AAISP for voip included as far as I know, although you could of course use any voip provider with zen0 -
Thanks very much. I'll give Zen a call tomorrow.0
