Debt from 2011 is being updated monthly on my credit report

I had a contract in 2011 with Virgin Mobile. The phone become faulty and I sent it for repair. Virgin Mobile said the repair was out of warranty and so they sent it back. Though I never received it and disputed this with them. The sent me the tracking details which shown it was signed for but this was not my signiture. They didn't want to know and so I felt there was nothing more I could do and refused to continue to pay.
I have recently checked my credit report and notice that Virgin Mobile are updating my account as being 'In Arrears' every month from July 2011 all the way up until now (July 2016).
They have not contacted me since then to ask me to pay this debt.
Is there any way I can get them to remove this from updating every month for what seems will be for the rest of my life? Without me having to pay the balance of £344?

Lenders update every month. At least that's what we hope for. Every month they update, your arrears will be shown in the history of the account. But if the account has a default date that should be static and not change.
If lenders didn't update most of us including myself would complain about it.0 -
Oh so this is normal?
I assumed it wasn't as it's the only one that has done this. I have other accounts that have been defaulted in the past but all were marked as defaulted. Where as Virgin Mobile are updating this as 'In Arrears' every month. Not defaulted.0 -

If they useing 6 as a status each month this will carry on for ever ,this is aganst the ico guidelines , it hurts your credit file worst then any thing ,I would complain0 -
Hi,
Yes, it shows status 6 every single month from July 2011 until now.
Why is this against the ICO guidelines and who do I complain to?
Thank You0 -
That is shocking. I'm not sure if that's right because I had taken out two contracts for an ex I had fired off. I never knew credit rating was so important back then but now it is and its stopping me from doing so much.
Mine come up as in arrears for a few months from the last date they was paid (aril 2012) down to around December 2012. Then that's it. Now it has changed to defaulted. It still needs paying but it isn't updating As in arrears every month. These are for Vodafone and EE.
I think the best thing to do is just pay it
It's going to continue hurting your credit score and just before it clears off they could put in a CCJ which would stay on for another 6 years0 -
I'd have been more than happy to pay it if they sent me the phone back to me. I don't feel I should pay for something I didn't receive.0

Complain to them to start with, I went to fos , they were useless , I then complain to the ico information commiseuer office who after investigating (took 2 years) got them changed to up to date but on an arrangement to pay ( they were still reporting arrears even after one was settled) .my credit file improved was given full current account and a cash back credit card with my bank with in months0

Thanks. I will get I touch with them asap0

I see what you mean. If you haven't recieved the phone why should you have paid? I do wish you luck in sorting this out because my contracts from the past are holding my credit rating back massively. I've paid one just got the other to pay back now0

Just remember your credit rating isn't seen by lenders, no harm in thinking it looks OK the 768 but only you can see it.0
