BT Broadband pathetic

Advice needed please. The speed is an absolute joke, at busy times I'm not even getting half a Mb. Add to that the fact I'm paying £20 a month for the privilege whilst new customers pay £5. I'm basically paying 2016 prices for 2001 speed internet.

Still have 10 months to run on my contract but I'm seriously considering canceling and not paying up for the remainder of it.

My question is if I do this would it effect my credit rating? I have never failed to pay a bill in my life but the service is such a joke I begrudge having to do it just to get away from them.

Of course it will affect your credit rating , don't stop paying the bill

Phone the BT number , when the voice prompt asks you what you are calling about say only "complaint" from now on , do not say broadband any more

I take it you have checked BT line by putting the modem direct into the test socket on the master socket ?

What speeds were you told to expect when you signed up

I've been on the phone to them countless times. Every time its "We have tested your line Sir no faults found". It's simply a case of them throttling the service at busy times.

Edit: Was told to expect up to 17mb, best I have ever had is 6mb falling to 0.5mb at busy times. In fact at its worst its even slower than 1997 dial up speed.

    Have you done the above?

What expected speed shows on http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/ when you try your phone number?

What sped are you getting at your BT Broadband hub .

Certainly BT do not throttle my service and have not heard of them doing so .That is not to say your exchange may be congested at certain times .
