I've been told that there's a place near me that stocks hundreds of part worns & only the major brands. From what the guy said a lot of the private hire taxis use it.

I used to fit part-worns and always was able to just have a look around and pick my own - that way the seller doesn't get accused of picking the worst ones out. I've read that there are all sorts of sources for part-worn tyres - some places always replace tyres in pairs if not complete sets, for example, which can leave one or even three perfectly good tyres. I don't do it any more, just because I'd rather be able to get the tyre I want when I want it, without dragging round a lot of places to build a set of the same make/model. I never looked into the overall cost of it, this was more about being able to get a legal set of tyres for the minimum outlay.0
