Is it worth taking the risk?

It is likely there might be some form of personal injury.

There is no risk, since the parties exchanged details at the time and there was no mention of any injury.

Injuries (e.g. whiplash) do manifest themselves later but there is no requirement in the RTA for drivers to foresee this.

    You worry unnecessarily.

Where do you see any risk?

You can only go by what you experienced at the scene!

Maybe best to stop your scaremongering and misinformed advice to the op

The OP does NOT need waste police time nor his own reporting this incident

They will, if it is a damage only accident, and there is no injury, and names and addresses are exchanged, there is no requirement to report the accident to the police. They will regard it as a 'non reportable damage only accident'.

So I went today anyway just to cover my !!!! and they said it didnt need to be reported since details were exchanged at the scene. I asked about if they claim whiplash later on and they said if it comes to it they will deal with it via insurance but still no need to report it now.

My phone tracks my locations at all times so iv got it logged that I attended in case there is an issue further down the line.

So not only have you wasted the police's time, you wasted everyone's time here with your thread! (Except bigjl who might have learned something!)

I wouldn't have thought that the OP's conversation at the police station lasted more than a minute or two so hardly a great waste of the police's time.
As to wasting everyone else's time. People are free to either read posts or totally ignore them so if anyone has wasted their time, that is their choice and how much time did you waste typing your post complaining about wasted time?

I still really appreciated your input though Quentin. The point was to gather opinion on the matter since i am inexperienced. Was just scared that if a whiplash claim came through and i haven't tried to report it I might get bollocked later.

And yeah it was only 2 mins in there.

Wasted my own time more than others.
  • With a lot of crash for cash going on, I'd report it just for peace of mind, slamming brakes on and getting the car behind to rear end them is a well known scam.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

Don't forget wasting your insurers time too (your post #4!):

Ok I called my insurance they said the same, the police do not need to be involved, I just wasn't sure as I dont want them claiming injury later even though I think they are ok, i mean they were standing talking and walking with no complaints from their side (so far). ......

(Were you able to report the incident that doesn't stop the injured party making a claim over any injuries - they have 3 years to do so.)

You're lucky the police didn't nick you for careless driving as you smashed into the back of another car. What good will reporting it do when the whiplash claims roll in?

No it doesn't- unless you've had it surgically implanted.
