Nymphadora needs to forget vanishing the mortgage and concentrate on the debt

I have been on the MFW part of the site as DH and I really wanted to start making a dent in our new mortgage however our new house is just haemorrhaging money and after our latest purchase I realise that the mortgage free goal needs to put on hold and get the debt down.
I don't actually know off the top of my head how much is owed so will do this today, but thankfully for the next year it is all 0%.
Add to this we have a family wedding to attend in October abroad (ok don't have to attend but we will be) and our debt will be sitting it a rather large amount.
I am fortunate I only work very part time and while I don't have great health I think I can cope with increasing my hours although I need to have a conversation with work to see if this is possible.
Every penny spent on the house has been worth it and I am sure it has added value (we got this house for a very good price).
So no point crying over spilt milk, time to get this sorted although I will no doubt add another £2K over the next 2 months or so but once this is added the house will be almost done bar a few rooms that we can live with for the next couple of years.

Okay I have just checked the card statements. It's bad.
Card 1 £1,257.82 (add £350 still to be added)
Card 2 £939.88
Card 3 £9036.61
Loan £18,958.67
Sofa £2908.00
Total £33,100.98
Apart from the loan everything is interest free for now.
Card 1 I am owed £150 from friends as I booked concert tickets on it.
The loan is just going to be left to run in the back ground I am not aiming to pay it off early. It has 84 months still to run and was planned when we bought the house to pay for renovations and our much needed new car.
Sofa payments not yet started as we haven't received it yet.
Monthly minimums on the cards are approx. £133.
This month once DH gets paid next week I aim to pay an additional £400 to the cards but until I see his pay slip I won't know.
The Card with £939.88 on it I will pay just the minimum payment for the next year while it is on 0%
The £9036.61 will the card I will be concentrating hard o n as while this is 0% for the next year I don't want it anywhere near that amount when the interest starts.0 -
Our food budget had gotten way out of control so last month I withdrew £250 and used only cash. Apart from I think a £15 top up that went on the debit card we managed to make it to the end of the month with some food leftover.
I was paid on Friday so withdrew £250 again although I have done a huge shop so we are down to £104 to last till I get paid again in a month. However we have enough meals to last the month so the £104 should just be for fruit, milk and bread and since I can get milk and bread in FF for a £1 I think we shall be fine.
Dinner tonight home made vegetable soup, roast chicken, potatoes, veg and home made Yorkshire puddings.0 -
Had to go to the shops as out of a few veg items and gravy granules.
So down to £97.75.
DH and I both at work tomorrow. I needed to buy toilet roll so took £10 out of the bank (I don't include household items in my food money) so was £1.95 for that and will use the remaining change for my weeks bus money.
I am only in a few days then off for a week.
Veg is prepped for dinner and I am just about to sort my clothes for work tomorrow and make my lunch. I work in a big town and my downfall can be buying lunch or just spending in general so I need to cut down on this big time. I would love to be brave enough to not take my card into work with me.0 -

Don't know where the days are going.
Not much to report really.
Gas and elec up to the 28th July is £73.57 should mean we are £80 for this month. Not yet worked out how much we owe to the company but our DD is £136 so this month £56 will go towards the debt.
So card 1 I have just received an updated statement.
It is sitting at £1607.82.
I have paid £26 that was due and my friend who owes £150 for something I put on the card has paid £50 today.
So once these payments come off I will be down to £1,531.82.0 -
Have had a look at the Gas and Elec and since we moved here in November last year till the 28th July we have used £1,076.45.
Once the DD comes out on Monday we will have paid £1,020.97 meaning we are now only in debt to the tune of £55.58 :j
Once this is all paid off I think we will just come off DD and pay the bill monthly as it comes in. I will put £136 away in a separate account but it means anything left over once the bill is paid can go straight off the credit card.
We have a smart meter so should be able to keep everything under control.
Chicken casserole in the slow cooker for dinner tonight.0 -
Just sorting through paperwork and have come across a letter from an old credit card saying the account is closed but there is a credit balance of £16.87 and to write with our bank details. Letter is dated September last year.
Will post a letter of today to them and hopefully they will return the funds. Once that's in will get it paid towards the credit card.0 -
Had to buy a few things today for kids going back to school and some birthdays. Haven't added it all up but around £30 I think.
Had a look @ Gas & Elec up till the 30th we are at £77.74 by tomorrow I should know July's full amount.
My house is in a right old state, washing everywhere, boxes still not unpacked from the move 8 months ago. I do find when I am un organised I spend more money I really need to get my head out the clouds and get back to sorting this tip of a house. Especially with all the money we are spending in making the house look great it will be a shame to spoil it with by having stuff about. I am also hoping to sell some stuff.
Right off to have a bath and and early night.0 -
Gas and Elec for July was £81.04.
So August is a really bad month spend wise. We have loads of birthdays and of course the dreaded back to school shopping.
Spends today were £4.50 on Parking.
£20 on one gift
£13.10 on another gift
£5.75 on cards
£75 on school shoes (will get this back as grand parents will pay)
Need to sort out food spends as I bought a few things over the last few days.0 -
So the birthday spends continue. £25.98 on another present last night. Only 1 more to go but it is a big birthday ending in a 0 so it will be a bit more expensive.
Today though was a NSD :j going to have to have as many as these as possible.
I have decided (yet again) I need to lose weight, about a stone. Problem is I have fibromyalgia and when I am having a flare up I tend to need sugary drinks and carbs to get me through the day. However I am not having a flare up at the moment so really no excuse, except the endless amount of birthday cake being consumed this month :rotfl:
Gas and elec for August so far is £4.89. Had to have the heating on this morning for an hour as it was cold
