  • I've posted this before but thought it would be good to add it to this thread too..

...I've heard lots of people say GHD's break really easily

I've been using GHD's for nearly 6 years, I am on my second pair. 1st pair were for my 16th birthday, 2nd pair for 18th birthday (my first one's still work perfectly but I got another pair as I was worried about them breaking from what I'd read previously, so I've always got a pair as backup as I couldn't be without them for a day as my hair is quite wild!)

I wasn't aware that the new one's are also unreliable, I thought it was a problem with a specific batch of the first lot to come out?

I've been using my new ones ever since I got them, so for nearly 4 years and they are still going strong, I really don't take any special care of them, just wipe the plates every now and then to get rid of product build-up, my first pair are there for backup and for taking on holiday (in case my suitcase goes missing!)

I thoroughly recommend GHD's, but as I've had mine for so long I've not tried any of the new ones around from different brands so can't comment on how good they are, but I don't think I could defer from GHD as my hair seems to like them! I've not noticed that my hair has even been remotely damaged from using them, infact it seems in better condition than it ever has been. In fact GHD's don't heat up as high as some of the new ones do, but this is a good thing as they still straighten but don't do as much damage.

Saying that though I did see some Babyliss Pro 230 Elegance straighteners in Costco for £35 which I was tempted by as a third pair!!

Just my opinion but I hope that helps someone!
  • I have used my nicky clarke wet to dry straighteners for the last 2 years and have been the best ive used so far ive never used them while my hair has been wet just incase it singes it lol but im hair stays straight for days they are brilliant! they cost me £40 from boots in a leather box with a heat mat and some added hair products :)

my ghds broke they were just over a year old sent them back to jemella with covering letter 10 days later they sent me brand new pair so no complaints at all as for other makes i had a pair of remingtons that cost 50 quid load of rubbish singed my hair big time never had that with the ghds so to me their is no contest.
Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)
  • I personally have SHE straightners and so does my daughter. She has had hers for well over a year and I have had mine about 6 months. Even friends who have or have use of GHD's say they compare favourably. A couple of the girls have even gone on to buy some for themselves. Not only are they cheaper but they come with a 2 year guarantee!

So many GHD's fans! I have only ever borrowed a pair and tbh wasn't that impressed, IMHO my babyliss pro 230's (£30) are the absolute best straighteners I have ever used. I bought them on the advice of people on this website and I absolutely love them. GHD's last a few years if you're lucky and are stupidly priced. My Babyliss Pro 230's have a cordless function, heat up superfast and have tourmeline plates which are awesome. I love them.

BUY BABYLISS PRO 230'S AND KEEP YOUR ENTERTAINMENT FUND INTACT!

EDIT: just realised IoweIoweitsofftoworkIgo has recommended the same ones. Trust us OP they are fab!
PLUS they come with 5 year guarantee!
  • It's worth checking your local trade-it for GHD's. I managed to get a pair a month ago (brand new ltd edition pink mark 3's) for £45 and they were going for nearer £70 on Ebay. Had looked everywhere and just by chance checked trade-it.
    :hello: TTC since 11/09
  • I've got SHE straightners, had them for over 6 months, they are brilliant! A friend of mine has GHD's we can't tell the difference..... except for the price ;)
  • After seeing the recommendations for the BaByliss 230's I rushed off to buy some!

I have to say they are wonderful and so am sending a great big "thank you" to everyone who recommended them. My hair is so thick that the old BaByliss ones I had didn't really do much but this babies are just fab! :D
My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first being, hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.

  • Hi - this is Mrs Pat Mustard here - I've pinched my husbands ID and his love of his new fav site

    Try these

I found these last week and they arrived on Monday. I have very thick hair, just off the shoulder which does not seem to be a problem for these straighteners. In fact I went out to the pub last night and received loads of lovely comments. None yet from Mr Pat Mustard - but then again he never notices anything! :p
    Regards
    Pat Mustard.

  • Regarding the BaByliss 230's: Are these the same model as the ones shown Amazon.co.uk?

The picture looks different. I just like the sound of the free-returns service John Lewis is offering.

EDIT: Never mind, ordered off Amazon anyway.
