Keep out of their car parks and make sure everyone you know does the same.
I do Contracts, all day every day.
  • Sorry to hear about the outcome - maybe you could request the information about the payment that you made and to which they are referring in their response. You may still have vacated the space within the 'grace period' which they are required to give. You could phone Parking Eye direct. I did this morning and managed to speak to a person and not a machine - 08435940433.

They confirmed that all of their car parks have the same grace period and recent case law (ParkingEye v Mrs X 2014) states that this is 20 minutes although, this was 2014 and may have change. However, this could mean 10 minutes upon arrival, prior to buying the ticket and 10 minutes following the expiry of the ticket when exiting the site. Parking Eye refused to divulge the actual grace period over the phone and merely confirmed that it is the same at all of their car parks so I am drawing my conclusion from their confirmation of uniformity and the above case.

The advice on this site is to never, ever, ever, 'phone a parking company. There will be no record kept and you will not be able to prove anything that was said.
I think that 'phone number breaches Regulation 41 of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. Only geographical numbers should be offered and used.

The current BPA CoP (Version 6, Oct 2015) has two grace periods, so info from 2014 is well out of date. The first grace period is not stated, Joe Public is not allowed to know what is deemed reasonable. The second grace period is 10 minutes.

Grace periods will only be one of several appeal points at PoPLA.
I married my cousin. I had to...
    I don't have a sister. :D
    All my screwdrivers are cordless.

  • Sometimes, the only way to get the answer to a specific question is to ask directly and sometimes that requires a phone call....the wonders of a dictaphone means that you can record the call, which, incidentally, I did. Thanks for clarifying the grace period issue

We disagree. NEVER ring a parking firm - everything they told you was rubbish.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
