Cashing US Dollar Travellers Cheques in the UK

Hi,

I unearthed some old USD travellers cheques at the weekend and given the current exchange rate I was wondering where nest to go in the UK to get these cashed?

I appreciate travellers cheques are archaic and the rates are generally poor but any help would be appreciated.

Your bank will probably accept them and in due course give you the sterling equivalent.

US$ tc's would have to be cleared in New York so your bank might wait a while for final payment, which might mean you waiting. I think your bank would apply their exchange rate rather than American Express (if they issued the tc's).

I cashed some in a few years back at HSBC (who I had an account with) - they had a reasonable rate because their selling rates are generally dire... They did credit the cash immediately but said they'd take money back if any problems getting them through the system.
