E Mail I received yesterday from Elegant Travels AKA Travel Sri Lanka, based in Barnet Herts, UK.

]"We deeply regret to announce that Elegant Travels Ltd has ceased to trade, following being a victim of fraud and despite exhaustive attempts by the directors to rescue the company.

On behalf of Elegant Travels, the directors wish to profusely apologise for the inconvenience and distress that this will cause to you.

If you have booked a flights inclusive holiday or flights only originating from the UK you may be eligible for a full refund with ATOL since they are protected by ATOL Bond. Please contact ATOL on 0207 453 6700

Customers who have booked Hotel Accommodation only

You may be required by the hotel suppliers, transfer suppliers and car parking suppliers (if you have booked these services) to pay them locally. If you have to pay, you may be able to reclaim against:
    I. Your travel insurance provider (if you have travel insurance*)
II. Your credit card provider for services not received.
III. Other payment/buyer protection schemes (for example, if you paid for your booking via PayPal, you may be able to claim under PayPal Buyer Protection).

    Customers Due to Travel

We cannot guarantee your flight or your hotel reservations will be valid therefore you need to make arrangements to re-book all your future reservations via another supplier and apply for a refund from ATOL if it is an ATOL protected booking.

Licensed insolvency practitioners from HJS Solutions Ltd have been appointed as administrators. Please contact Insolvency Practitioner – Karl Lovett from HJS Solutions on 02380 234222.

    Additional Info

*Travel insurance: If you have travel insurance, whether or not you will be able to successfully claim against it will depend on the terms of your specific insurance policy, which should be reviewed."

GailyMac says: Perhaps I am a lucky one who hadn't travelled yet. Imagine being abroad and then having to problem solve this mess. Thank you MSE for support and got guidance on Section 75 which I hope will help me reclaim. Am wondering how long it normally takes and if it'll be quick enough to get money back in order to book another holiday....

This was a good company, I think their story of fraud may well be true. This is not another Low Cost Holidays scenario but looking at the LCH pages, people seem to be expecting to get refunds in a week and that realistically isn't going to happen. A few card issuers are putting a credit back into the account with the proviso that if they do not accept the claim, they take it back, it really depends on you starting the process with your card issuer and see what they say.
