Does anyone know if it is on a pro rata basis? I pay quarterly by dd so have paid about £78 so far for 16/17's licence, however sold my flat 119 days after the licence started, meaning that my liability should be £47.44 ((119/365)*£145.50).
I applied for a refund almost a month ago but have not heard anything from them.

Buying the licence as you via DD means you pay for it as you use it http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/pay-for-your-tv-licence/payment-methods/how-would-you-like-to-pay-for-your-tv-licence-pay8#Quarterly andmaking each quarter's fee £36.37 + £ 1.25 = £37.62
So 2 quarters paid would be £75.24 (close to but not exactly your £78).
Refunds are on unused quarters http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/faqs/FAQ14
So you aren't due anything back.
Of course if you are paying monthly DD the numbers are different.0 -

Well no, on quarterly dd it doesn't mean pay as you use it; I've paid for about 180 days worth and used about 119 days, so how is that pay as I use?
Also, I said "about £78", but thanks for clarifying the exact amount.
I found the bit about unused quarters. Not sure what computer system they use but a bit pathetic that they can't refund unused days on a pro rata basis.

Because I doubt we will be in before mid September so that'd mean paying another 3 months for nothing.
They seem very inflexible and refund full 1/4 only so doubt they'd do that anyway.0
