Refused Sainsbury's currency collection

I went to collect £1000 in Euros today from Sainsbury's ordered online prior to Brexit as highlighted on Money Saving Expert. I took my passport but was refused collection as I had used the shortened version of my first name on my order and my passport and driving licence state my longer first name. The surnames and initials match. When ordering the currency Sainsburys states at the top of the details page that .."This information must be the details of the person paying for and collecting/receiving the order.". It then asks for "first name" and then in a box below asks for "surname" stating by surname that surname "Must match card used for payment" which mine does. Have discussed with a manager who states that I have failed their security check as my first name is shortened on my order and I cannot therefore have my currency at the rate of 1.276 instead of current 1.17. I can't help being suspicious this is to just so they can avoid honouring the better rate. When I have ordered currency before I just sign for it with the postman with initial and surname. I never want to use Sainsburys again. Now no currency to go on holiday with. Has this happened to anyone else?

"Must be the details..." Probably covers them, but it appears they are being pedantic because they can.

Did they check the card that you paid with?

Why didn't you use your full first name ?

I see what your saying I used to work for them and the name has to match the ID 1st name & surname ( middle name don't matter )

the main reason is that every month they have checks by management who will mark them down for any mistakes no matter how small which is linked to a bonus so they are only doing there job

personally I would of let it slide and suffered the consequences later

Exactly! I get the distinct impression they will do all they can to wriggle out of any transaction they can which was done pre-Brexit when the rate was 10% better.
If registration page had stated that my first name like surname had to match my ID exactly I would of course have used my full name, just like when booking flights when I know this is imperative. I have even had a manager tell me that I should have included all 3 of my first names as this was needed to match my passport exactly! Another manager since refuted this. Appalling customer service. My contract for reservation at that rate was then cancelled without my permission.
I was paying on collection so none of this makes sense at all. They say I could have a twin whose paperwork I have stolen to get the better rate but I am paying with my own debit card so they know I am not stealing anyone else's money!

So it's all about the bonus and not the rate.
