Flight cancellation error

Hi
Looking for a bit of advice. We had booked our Holiday from Glasgow to Antalya Turkey for 11 nights, party of 6 children and 5 adults, turned up at airport on day of flight only to be advised our flight had been cancelled and re scheduled to the following day, over 24 hours, Thomas Cook, our airline advised us they had contacted our Holiday provider a number of months previous to inform them of the flight change, however they failed to inform me of this. They did advise that they had no knowledge of this change, however it has clearly been an error by Holiday provider. They did put us up in a Hotel for the night and to keep receipts. Complaint and receipts have been submitted and they have replied asking me what refund/compensation I am looking for. I would have thought they should be telling me what I am entitled to but I know they will be looking to settle as cheaply as possible. Any body had similar issues and any advise as to what I should be looking to claim.

If this had been an airline error, which it seems it wasn't (Thomas Cooks made huge changes to their timetables for Turkey at the end of March simply due to lack of demand) then you would have been claiming under EU261 on the basis of a flight cancellation which for a flight to Turkey would be 400 Euros each which is just over £300 each. If they paid for hotel and meals then I think £300 each is probably too much, unless your holiday was expensive in the first place.
Did you lose a day of your holiday, or did you stay the same number of nights but just came back a day later? If you didn't lose any time off the holiday and no time off work, then maybe £100 each but it depends to some extent on the cost. If it was £400 for 11 nights you are going to get a lot less than if it was £2000 each for the holiday. Perhaps calculate how much the holiday cost per day and try that as a reasonable starting point?0 -
Hello, thanks for reply, we arrived back home as scheduled so lost 1 days Holiday. Our Holiday cost £2000 for 2 adults and 2 children for what turned out to be 10 nights, not 11. I have read up on what your saying that it we would get £300 each if it's the airlines fault but as we know its Holiday provider at fault, so not sure how I stand.
They have not refused or approved refunds on receipts as yet, but I have asked that for starters that be refunded. I shall say about the £300 as above and see how I get on. As well as the awful start to the Holiday the Hotel was not as advertised to. Learning curve.
