I have a acer laptop running on windows 7. Could some one clarify when windows 7 support ends please.
Their are other laptops in the household that are newer and on windows 10, so I am aware what 10 is and can do.
My acer laptop (windows 7) is 5 years and at the moment is running well. I also prefer windows 7, its fine for my needs.
I am thinking leaving as is on 7. What do you think?

Read the other bits after .....
Update it , then revert back within 30 days. You will still be able to re-load 10 for the (near) future free. ......
However Back it up (preferably twice using different methods) first. I would use W7 backup and say one of the free offerings eg Easeus/AOEMI Backupper...etc. Ideally if you are able to change(and afford a new one) the hard Disk use the blank one and try the restore first, then upgrade on the new spare. Obviously belt and braces but hey it saves time coming back on here.
Since you have other machines in the household then saving some of the "important" files round those too, but also back up them as well.

As above plus I upgraded from win7 to win10 a couple of weeks ago and find it to be okay. Certainly would not go back to win7.0

I'd go for the upgrade to W10 while it's £0.
The Anniversary Upgrade to W10 that's due 2nd Aug is tip-top0 -
If you think you'll be using the machine after 14 January 2020 (when W7 extended support ends), then I'd go for the W10 upgrade.
For most people, hanging on to unsupported Windows OS's isn't a realistic option.0 -
I still use win 98 VM's sometimes. Anything to avoid writing a few lines of codeCensorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

So, done backups, and clicked on the windows 10 upgrade by clock, and I get the following message:
This pc is not compatible for windows 10
The app developers haven't made these apps compatible with windows 10, so they won't work.
Check with developers for support.
Windows live family safety.
Microsoft Corporation.
Their is no option to proceed.
So, I guess my acer laptop is to old.
Any ideas, or is their now no option, other than staying with windows 7.0 -

Interesting. My W7 laptop (HP) is older than yours and I suspected that it may be too old but have resisted the upgrade anyway. It is working fine with W7 and I am not confident about restoring it if any problems occurred. In addition, I am !!!!ed off with Microsoft for pushing it in the way that it has. I noticed a new icon for W10 on my laptop today. I rejected the W10 offer but it still stayed there so i checked my updates and the relevant KB3035583 had unhidden itself and reinstalled for the 3rd or 4th time. I have now uninstalled it and hidden it again. I will be happy to use W10 when i next need a new laptop.0
