Hsbc visa payment problem

Hi all, newbie here. I'd like to get some insights regarding a payment to HSBC Visa via Barclays.

I made a payment to HSBC Visa via Barclays Online Banking in June (before due date). Yesterday, we got a letter saying the payment is still outstanding and that 12 GBP interests applied.

So I rechecked our Barclays online banking, the payment had gone through, no indication of returned payment. I've messaged Barclays and hope to get answer soon. Has anyone had this problem recently?

I might worry for nothing but the fact that I am not in UK until later in Aug and hubby has no clue about this kind of problem worries me a bit. HSBC online blocked me out from accessing it as well due to fail attempts though I am sure I put correct info.

Another thing, our May statement is 60.29 GBP and plus 12 GBP, this July statement should be just 72.29 GBP..am I right? But current statement is 86.23 GBP... how do they calculate?

I may sound dump now but I never really get to pay interests :( we usually use Barclays credit card, always paid in full. We only used this HSBC card since it's been a while, so we just spent a little to keep the card active really. Since we have no money in HSBC account, we just transferred the payment from Barclays.

Thank you very much in advance.

With my credit card (MasterCard, not Visa), it's important to time the payment in line with the statement date. If I pay before that date it doesn't count as the payment for that statement.

I'm guessing this is what's happened with your payment.

Thank you. My May statement due on 13th June and I sent the payment on 8th June. So you think that is the problem? Do you know where the fund went as it didn't appear in may June or July statement.

Did you send it to the right place?

Sorry I must have mis-read your post, I thought the payment went onto your account ?

I've read it again, my mistake. You need to check the payment details - as zx81 says, you might have got a digit wrong in the account number or sort code.

The money might have gone to another account, if one exists for the number you sent it to, or it might be on a rejected payments account if the account doesn't exist. Either way you need to ask your bank Barclays to trace the payment through the payment system. They can do this, the UK payments system will have a full record of this payment. No point asking HSBC direct at the moment.

This could take some time to sort out but you should persist ! Good luck.

If it definitely hasn't been sent back to your Barclays current account my suspicion is that maybe you haven't correctly recorded your HSBC credit card number on the payment. In which case HSBC credit cards will be holding it in one of their accounts until you claim it. You will need to contact them. Once it is sorted out any charges or interest should be cancelled as they will count it as having been received into your credit card on the original date.

    Hope this helps

    Thank you.

Yes I checked and rechecked and I am sure I sent it to the right place.

No reject payment or anything of the sort and I am checking Barclays online almost everyday both Barclays and Barclayscard. If there is anything like reject payment I would know.

I will have to wait for the response from Barclays then.

    Thank you again for advice.

Thank you. I am sure all info was correct when I sent the payment. I will wait to hear from Barclays. If anything, hubby will go to the bank and ask for advice.

Were you using existing payment details that you had set up previously and used successfully in the past? If so then it's very unlikely that any of the details were incorrect this time, but if you set it up for first time use then it's certainly a possibility that something (probably your card number as the reference) was incorrect.

Thank you. It was the first time paying for this card. But again, since we got the letter, I have rechecked again and again on payment history...so far everything is correct (ie card numbers ref) but I couldn't see sort code and other details so I guess I have to wait for Barclays to get back to us.
