misses speeding

if anyone knows the answer I would be grateful.

her indoors was caught doing 46/47 in a 40 mph dual carriageway earlier ( first possible points in 10 years )

she was on the near side lane out of 2 lanes on her side of the carriageway.

do mobile units cover both lanes?

incidentally I then took her car out for a drive with my phones speedometer app running and if she was doing 46/47 then the car was really only doing 42 ( still over the limit I know ) which she will prob get away with?

cheers.

Mobile units can cover both lanes, when you say caught do you mean your partner drove past the van at an indicated 47mph rather than receiving something officially? Enforcement usually starts at 46mph in a 40.

  • She says the speedo was over 45mph when she came into view.

Speedos are quite crap if you try it against gps mph

    Hoping she's ok
  • Lanes don't matter to a mobile unit as there's no verification markers on the road. All they need is a line of sight.

She was doing over 45 when she saw the van, is it possible she was going quicker before she saw it, they may have got her a 1km away.

They say they can watch both directions at once, but they don't have independent speed cameras pointing both ways and it's typically just one retired Police officer pointing a lidar at cars he'd like to catch speeding.
There are cctv cameras on some of these vans to catch bikers.

They can catch a car coming toward or away from from them with the same camera, but the car heading away will have seen them, so they probably won't bother pointing the camera at that car unless it's making a lot of noise, instead maintaining a watch on the brow of the hill ahead or apex of a long sweeping blind bend.

I thought this thread was going to be about a reformed boy racer.

Is the 46/47 an estimate or have you received a letter?

I wouldnt trust the app on your phone. Its not accurate enough.

    You acually mean

"she was roaring along a dual carriageway when she noticed a camera unit, eased off and looked down at the speedo to see it read 47 in a 40."

The range of the mobile units means by the time you have seen them they have recorded your speed. You/she will have to wait 14 days to see if an NIP drops through the letterbox before you know whether she was caught or not. If nothing appears inside 14 days, and the car is registered to your address, she is in the clear.

I would think it it highly unlikely she will hear anything as their equipment is set at 10% + 2 MPH

Please keep in mind she has only recently swapped from a bubble shaped micra to a focus 2.0!

Roaring is not something that happens naturally in a micra!

However I suspect its more accurate than the speedo of a 17 year old focus :-)
